National Geographic Flight Sparks Luxury Tourism Boom in Nepal

On April 4, 2025, a National Geographic-branded aircraft arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport, bringing 77 affluent American travelers to Kathmandu. The group was part of an exclusive, month-long global journey that began in Seattle, USA.

The trip focused on experiencing Nepal’s rich art, culture, and heritage, and included visits to iconic locations like Bouddhanath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Pashupatinath. Yeti Holidays managed the arrangements in Nepal.

Nepal Tourism Board CEO, Deepak Raj Joshi, remarked that the arrival of the National Geographic charter sends a strong message about Nepal’s ability to attract high-end global travelers seeking meaningful cultural experiences. These tourists not only boost the economy with their significant spending but also act as ambassadors, promoting Nepal’s unique offerings worldwide. He emphasized that with strategic investments in top-tier infrastructure and services, Nepal can position itself as a preferred destination for luxury tourism.

The group reportedly spent between USD 40,000 to 45,000 per day on accommodations and food during their stay in Nepal. The Nepal Tourism Board is committed to establishing Nepal as a high-value destination and supports initiatives that highlight the country’s potential for premium tourism experiences.
