The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) has taken a significant step towards promoting wellness tourism in the country. Nepal is taking another strategic step toward diversifying and strengthening its tourism sector, with a special focus on the growing global trend of wellness tourism. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between DAI Global UK LTD. / Nepal in Business – Growth Advisors, represented by Team Leader Mr. Ratish Basnyat, and the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), represented by President Mr. Kumar Mani Thapaliya, at the NATTA Secretariat in Kathmandu. The agreement marks a collaborative initiative to enhance the capacity of wellness tourism stakeholders in Nepal through structured programs in packaging, marketing, accreditation, and certification.
A Partnership for Mutual Growth in Wellness Tourism
Wellness tourism, which encompasses travel experiences focused on improving health, well-being, and spiritual balance, is a rapidly expanding niche market worldwide. With Nepal’s pristine natural environment, rich cultural heritage, and centuries-old traditions in Ayurveda, yoga, and meditation, the country holds immense potential to become a leading wellness destination in South Asia. Recognizing this opportunity, DAI Global UK and NATTA have agreed to combine their expertise and resources to create a stronger ecosystem for wellness tourism operators, service providers, and entrepreneurs.
The MoU lays out a framework for cooperation aimed at raising industry standards and ensuring that wellness tourism products and services from Nepal meet international quality benchmarks. Through this collaboration, the two organizations aim to improve both the capacity and market reach of wellness tourism businesses, enabling them to compete globally while offering authentic, sustainable, and high-quality experiences.
Building Capacity through Packaging, Marketing, and Standards
One of the core objectives of this partnership is to equip wellness tourism actors in Nepal with advanced skills in tourism product packaging. This will involve developing integrated wellness tourism packages that combine multiple experiences, such as yoga retreats, Ayurvedic treatments, meditation programs, nature treks, and spa therapies, into cohesive offerings that appeal to domestic and international travelers.
Marketing is another critical focus area. With the increasing digitalization of the travel industry, strong branding and online visibility are essential to reach the right audience. DAI Global UK and NATTA will work together to provide training and resources that help operators market their wellness products effectively, leveraging digital tools, social media platforms, and targeted campaigns to attract wellness-focused tourists.
The MoU also emphasizes the importance of accreditation and certification, which are key to establishing credibility in the wellness tourism sector. Through the collaboration, service providers will be guided in adopting international best practices and achieving certifications that assure clients of their professionalism, quality, and safety standards.

Industry Leaders Express Optimism
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Ratish Basnyat, Team Leader of Nepal in Business – Growth Advisors, highlighted the untapped potential of Nepal’s wellness tourism sector. He emphasized that the global wellness tourism market is growing rapidly, driven by an increasing number of travelers seeking meaningful and health-oriented experiences. “By equipping Nepal’s wellness tourism stakeholders with the right skills, tools, and standards, we can position the country as a premium destination for holistic well-being,” he stated.
Similarly, Mr. Kumar Mani Thapaliya, President of NATTA, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that it aligns with NATTA’s mission to promote diverse tourism products and strengthen the competitiveness of Nepal’s tourism sector. He stressed that wellness tourism is not only a high-value market segment but also a sustainable one, as it encourages longer stays, higher spending, and deep cultural engagement.
A Strategic Step for Nepal’s Tourism Diversification
The collaboration comes at a time when Nepal’s tourism industry is actively working to recover from global disruptions and reposition itself for sustainable growth. By investing in niche segments like wellness tourism, the country can diversify its tourism offerings beyond traditional trekking and mountaineering, attracting a wider range of visitors year-round.
Wellness tourism also complements Nepal’s existing strengths in nature-based tourism and spiritual travel. With destinations like Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha; numerous meditation centers; traditional healing practices; and scenic Himalayan retreats, Nepal has a unique advantage in offering authentic wellness experiences rooted in culture and nature.
Expected Long-Term Benefits
Through this MoU, wellness tourism actors in Nepal will gain access to specialized training, mentorship, and international networking opportunities. Improved packaging and marketing are expected to boost visitor numbers, while accreditation and certification will help attract high-spending tourists who value quality and authenticity. The partnership also aims to encourage collaboration among service providers, ensuring that wellness tourism in Nepal is developed in a coordinated and sustainable manner.
In the long term, the initiative could help create new jobs, support local economies, and promote Nepal as a hub for wellness tourism in the region. By emphasizing both quality and sustainability, it also supports the broader goal of positioning Nepal as a responsible and competitive tourism destination on the global stage.
