Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority of Nepal, has published the official foreign currency exchange rates for Thursday. According to the NRB, the exchange rates have been carefully set to regulate the market and provide guidance for banks, businesses, traders, and the general public engaged in foreign currency transactions.
The rates reflect the purchasing and selling prices of major international currencies, including the US Dollar, Euro, Pound Sterling, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan, and several other key currencies that are widely used in trade, remittance, and tourism.
US Dollar and Euro Rates
As per today’s announcement, the US Dollar stands at a buying rate of NPR 140.67 and a selling rate of NPR 141.27. This indicates stability in the dollar rate compared to the previous week, which is crucial for import and export activities since most international trade settlements are done in US Dollars.
The European Euro has been fixed at NPR 164.56 for buying and NPR 165.26 for selling. The Euro continues to remain strong against the Nepali currency, reflecting global market trends where the Euro has appreciated in the past few weeks. This rate is particularly important for travelers and students heading to European countries, as well as for Nepali businesses that import goods from the Eurozone.
Pound Sterling and Swiss Franc
The British Pound Sterling has been set at NPR 190.40 for buying and NPR 191.22 for selling. As one of the strongest currencies globally, the Pound’s high valuation against the Nepali Rupee affects remittances, especially from the UK, where a large Nepali diaspora community lives and works.
Similarly, the Swiss Franc is trading at a buying rate of NPR 176.30 and a selling rate of NPR 177.05. The Franc, considered a safe-haven currency in international finance, has maintained steady value in the region.

Australian, Canadian, and Singapore Dollars
For other major global currencies, NRB has announced the following rates:
- Australian Dollar: Buying rate NPR 92.91, Selling rate NPR 93.31.
- Canadian Dollar: Buying rate NPR 101.52, Selling rate NPR 101.95.
- Singapore Dollar: Buying rate NPR 109.61, Selling rate NPR 110.08.
These currencies hold significance in Nepal due to migration and trade patterns. Thousands of Nepali students and workers in Australia, Canada, and Singapore rely on exchange rate fluctuations, which directly affect remittance inflows.
Asian Currencies: Yen, Yuan, and Riyal
The Japanese Yen, one of the most traded Asian currencies, has been valued at NPR 9.54 for buying and NPR 9.58 for selling per 10 units. Although relatively lower in value, the Yen is vital for trade with Japan, especially in automobiles and electronics.
The Chinese Yuan is fixed at NPR 19.75 for buying and NPR 19.84 for selling. With China being Nepal’s largest trading partner, the Yuan exchange rate has direct implications on Nepal’s import bills.
For Gulf currencies, which play a significant role due to labor migration, the rates are as follows:
- Saudi Arabian Riyal: Buying NPR 37.50, Selling NPR 37.66.
- Qatari Riyal: Buying NPR 38.59, Selling NPR 38.76.
These values matter greatly for remittances, as hundreds of thousands of Nepali migrant workers are employed in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Other Regional Currencies
The Thai Baht has been set at NPR 4.43 for buying and NPR 4.44 for selling. Similarly, the UAE Dirham stands at NPR 38.30 (buying) and NPR 38.46 (selling). The Malaysian Ringgit is valued at NPR 33.34 (buying) and NPR 33.48 (selling).
The South Korean Won, another currency important for remittances, has been fixed at NPR 10.13 for buying and NPR 10.17 for selling per 100 units.
European currencies such as the Swedish Kroner and Danish Kroner are set at NPR 15.04 (buying) and NPR 15.10 (selling), and NPR 22.04 (buying) and NPR 22.14 (selling), respectively.
High-Value Currencies: Kuwaiti Dinar and Others
Among the strongest global currencies, the Kuwaiti Dinar has been fixed at a buying rate of NPR 460.46 and a selling rate of NPR 462.42, making it the highest-valued currency against the Nepali Rupee today.
Other Gulf currencies include:
- Bahraini Dinar: Buying NPR 374.10, Selling NPR 374.69.
- Omani Riyal: Buying NPR 365.36, Selling NPR 366.92.
The Hong Kong Dollar has been set at NPR 18.06 for buying and NPR 18.14 for selling.
Indian Rupee Rate Remains Stable
The Indian Rupee (INR), Nepal’s closest and most widely used currency due to the open border and trade dependency, remains stable. NRB has fixed 100 Indian Rupees at NPR 160.00 for buying and NPR 160.15 for selling. This near parity exchange rate continues to influence Nepal’s day-to-day trade, tourism, and personal transactions with India.
Importance of Exchange Rates for Nepal
Foreign exchange rates published by Nepal Rastra Bank are critical for the nation’s economy. They not only guide importers and exporters but also affect remittances, tourism earnings, and foreign investments. With Nepal’s economy heavily dependent on remittances from overseas workers, especially in the Gulf countries, Malaysia, Korea, and developed nations like the US, UK, and Australia, the daily rates directly impact household incomes.
Businesses importing raw materials, fuel, and machinery also rely on these rates to calculate costs and pricing. Similarly, students studying abroad and travelers must take these exchange values into account for their expenses.
The latest exchange rates announced by Nepal Rastra Bank provide a clear picture of Nepal’s currency valuation against international counterparts. While major currencies such as the US Dollar, Euro, and Pound Sterling remain strong, the Indian Rupee continues to hold steady at its usual level. These rates will play a crucial role in shaping trade, remittance inflows, and the overall financial outlook of Nepal for the day.
