The division has stated that most parts of the country are expected to witness cloudy conditions, particularly in the hilly and Tarai regions. The forecast highlights that provinces such as Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini will likely experience moderate rain in some hilly areas, while a few Tarai regions may also see rainfall. Similarly, heavy rainfall is anticipated at one or two places in the hilly belts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as in certain parts of Madhes province.

The division has pointed out that moderate rainfall will remain a common occurrence in hilly regions due to active weather systems. The presence of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean has intensified the likelihood of precipitation. Hilly districts in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are particularly under observation.
Local residents and travelers in these areas are advised to remain alert, as rainfall may cause slippery roads, minor landslides, and disruption in local travel. Farmers, however, might benefit from the showers, which could support paddy and maize cultivation in areas where water scarcity has recently been reported.
Heavy Rainfall Possibility in Select Areas
In addition to moderate showers, the MFD has also warned of heavy rainfall in certain locations. The risk is relatively higher in the hilly belts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Similarly, Madhes province may also witness significant rainfall in some areas.
The division has urged caution, noting that heavy rains could trigger landslides, floods in smaller streams, and waterlogging in low-lying settlements. People living near riverbanks, steep slopes, and flood-prone zones have been requested to remain vigilant. Weather in the Tarai Region
While the Tarai generally experiences hot and humid conditions during this season, today’s forecast indicates that several Tarai districts may also receive light to moderate rainfall. Such precipitation will provide temporary relief from the persistent heat but may also bring challenges such as waterlogging in urban centers like Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, and Nepalgunj.
Farmers in Tarai districts, particularly those cultivating rice, sugarcane, and vegetables, are expected to gain some respite, as the rains could improve soil moisture levels. However, continuous heavy rains could also damage standing crops, and experts have recommended careful monitoring of farmlands.
Air Travel and Road Transport Advisory
The cloudy and rainy conditions are likely to affect both domestic flights and long-distance road transportation. Air passengers traveling to and from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar, and other regional airports may face delays or cancellations if visibility drops. Similarly, travelers using hilly highways, including the Prithvi Highway, BP Highway, and Narayangadh-Mugling road, may encounter delays due to wet and slippery road conditions.
Authorities have appealed to drivers to maintain caution, especially while traveling through landslide-prone sections. Public transport operators are also requested to ensure safety measures to avoid accidents.
Farmers’ Perspective
For farmers, the rain is both a blessing and a challenge. In several districts, where monsoon rains had been weaker than usual, today’s showers could replenish irrigation sources and support seasonal crops. Paddy transplantation, which requires adequate water, may benefit in the eastern and central hills.
However, agriculture experts caution that excessive rainfall could damage seedlings and erode fertile topsoil. Farmers have been urged to adopt protective measures such as building drainage channels in fields to prevent waterlogging.
Public Preparedness
With weather fluctuations affecting daily life, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has emphasized the need for public preparedness. People are advised to carry umbrellas or raincoats while traveling, avoid unnecessary trips during heavy rainfall, and stay updated with weather bulletins.
