Nepal Showcases Strong Tourism Potential at SATTE 2026

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) marked a successful participation at SATTE 2026, held at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention & Expo Centre), generating significant business leads, strengthening partnerships, and boosting confidence among Indian travel stakeholders.

Over three days of intensive networking, the Nepal Pavilion at Stall B32, Hall 1, emerged as a dynamic hub for meaningful engagement between Nepalese tourism entrepreneurs and Indian buyers. The country fielded one of its largest-ever delegations, comprising 44 representatives from tour operators, destination management companies, boutique hotels, resorts, airlines, adventure specialists, and community-based tourism enterprises. The unified message was clear: Nepal is ready to collaborate, deliver high-quality experiences, and grow together with its largest source market.

Strong Footfall and High-Quality Business Engagement

Throughout the exhibition, the Nepal Pavilion witnessed consistent visitor traffic and a series of back-to-back meetings with Indian outbound travel operators, corporate planners, wedding organizers, media professionals, and travel influencers.

Participants noted that discussions quickly progressed beyond introductory conversations into concrete business inquiries. Buyers arrived with specific plans and showed strong intent to include Nepal in their upcoming travel portfolios.

Demand was particularly strong for short-haul international holidays that combine accessibility with diverse experiences. Indian travel companies expressed keen interest in designing new itineraries that cater to evolving traveler preferences, including:

  • Spiritual and pilgrimage circuits
  • Multi-day religious journeys linked to Kailash routes
  • Luxury villa stays, boutique retreats, and wellness tourism
  • Adventure holidays, such as trekking extensions and mountain biking
  • Community-based tourism and village immersion programs
  • Destination weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) venues
  • Filming and OTT production opportunities

Such interest reflects a broader shift among Indian travelers toward experiential tourism that blends comfort, culture, and authenticity.

Nepal Gains Attention as an Emerging Filming Destination

One of the standout developments during the event was Nepal’s growing appeal as a filming location. Delegates reported productive meetings with Indian film producers, OTT platform creators, and advertising agencies seeking fresh and visually striking backdrops.

Destinations such as Pokhara, Kathmandu Valley, and Lumbini attracted particular attention for their unique blend of natural beauty, cultural depth, and accessibility. Industry professionals highlighted Nepal’s advantage of offering diverse landscapes, from Himalayan panoramas to heritage cities, within relatively short travel distances. Combined with improving air connectivity and competitive production costs, Nepal is increasingly viewed as a practical alternative for Indian production houses seeking new visual narratives.

India Remains Nepal’s Largest Tourism Market

India continues to be the single largest contributor to Nepal’s international visitor arrivals, accounting for approximately 25–30 percent of total tourists. Recent data indicates that January 2026 recorded a notable 30 percent increase in Indian arrivals compared to the same period in 2025, signaling a strong post-pandemic recovery and renewed travel confidence.

The open border between Nepal and India, along with cultural familiarity, convenient travel logistics, and favorable currency exchange rates, makes Nepal an attractive and hassle-free international destination for Indian travelers. Improved aviation links and seamless on-ground tourism services have further enhanced accessibility.

Focus on Long-Term Collaboration and Sustainable Growth

Beyond immediate business transactions, the Board emphasized building sustainable partnerships aimed at long-term tourism development. Key collaborative initiatives discussed during the expo included:

  • Joint familiarization trips for travel trade and media
  • Bilateral trade exchange programs
  • Promotional roadshows in emerging Indian cities
  • Co-branded marketing campaigns
  • Engagement of young entrepreneurs in cross-border tourism innovation

Officials stressed that the objective this year extended beyond lead generation to building resilient networks capable of supporting sustained growth.

According to NTB representatives, Indian partners demonstrated openness to co-creating new tourism products tailored to changing traveler expectations, particularly in niche segments such as wellness, soft adventure, luxury escapes, and spiritual tourism.

Positive Outlook for Future Tourism Expansion

The successful participation at SATTE 2026 reinforced Nepal’s positioning not merely as a travel destination but as a strategic partner for the Indian tourism industry. Strengthened relationships, promising business inquiries, and collaborative marketing plans are expected to translate into increased visitor flows in the coming years.

With its unique combination of mountains, heritage sites, spiritual trails, adventure opportunities, and high-end hospitality experiences, Nepal aims to offer journeys that extend beyond conventional travel into meaningful, memorable experiences.

As momentum builds, tourism stakeholders remain optimistic that the connections forged during the expo will evolve into sustained partnerships, helping drive mutual economic growth and cultural exchange between the two neighboring nations.
