Nepali Congress Protests High Airfare at Maitighar Mandala Led by MP Rajendra Bajagain

In response to rising airfare costs, a protest was organized today at Maitighar Mandala, led by Nepali Congress MP Rajendra Bajagain. Demonstrators carried banners and placards, highlighting concerns about the impact of high ticket prices on Nepal’s aviation and tourism sectors. MP Bajagain emphasized that the protest aims to urge authorities to find ways to reduce the high airfare rates.

Expressing concern, MP Bajagain noted that expensive airfare has pushed many Nepalis, especially those traveling abroad for employment, to seek cheaper flights through India. He further stated that the protest also serves as a symbolic pressure on the government to ensure efficient and full operations at Gautam Buddha and Pokhara International Airports.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) recently instructed airlines to adhere to fixed airfares and ensure ticket availability after complaints arose about increased ticket prices due to Tribhuvan International Airport’s daily 10-hour closure.

To address airfare concerns, CAAN held a meeting with representatives from the relevant ministries, and domestic and foreign airlines, resulting in a five-point agreement.

Construction of a new taxiway at Tribhuvan International Airport began on Kartik 23 (November 8). Airlines have reportedly raised fares in response to the reduced flight hours during construction.
