Awareness Campaign Launched to Prevent Altitude Sickness for High-Altitude Tourists in Thasang

In a collaborative effort to reduce altitude sickness among tourists visiting the high Himalayan regions, an awareness campaign was launched on Kartik 25, 2081 BS, at Ghasa in Thasang Rural Municipality Ward No. 4. This initiative, spearheaded by the District Security Committee, aims to safeguard visitors against altitude-related risks and promote safe travel within the Annapurna Conservation Area.

The event saw the participation of key officials, including the Chief District Officer, heads of security agencies, representatives from local rural municipalities, health office personnel, employees from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), and leaders from the Federation of Journalists and local communities.

An informational board was set up at Ghasa to guide altitude sickness prevention and safe travel practices within the conservation area. The ACAP extended financial and technical support for the program, while the Narayan Dal Battalion assisted with content preparation.

With the slogan “Let’s Protect Ourselves and Others from Altitude Sickness! Travel Safely within Conservation Areas and Capture Unforgettable Memories,” the campaign underscores the importance of altitude awareness. Altitude sickness has been a recurring issue for tourists, sometimes leading to severe consequences. By equipping visitors with information and preventive measures, the local authorities hope to significantly reduce altitude-related incidents in the region.

The program serves as a crucial reminder for tourists to take necessary precautions in high-altitude areas and promotes the safe exploration of Nepal’s Himalayan beauty.
