Ninth Tanahun Agriculture, Tourism, and Technology Festival Set to Begin

Tanahun is all set to host the Ninth Tanahun Agriculture, Tourism, and Technology Festival under the theme “Tanahun Festival, Our Foundation: Infrastructure for Economic and Social Development.” The festival will take place from Poush 25 to Magh 7 at BP Van Batika in Byas Municipality-3. Organized by the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with support from its Damauli Market Unit, the festival aims to promote agricultural products and tourism in the region.

Focus on Agriculture

This year, the festival prioritizes the promotion of agriculture to address issues such as low sales and the abandonment of farmland. Speaking about the festival, Baikunthanath Mishra, President of the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry and coordinator of the festival’s main committee, stated that the focus is to safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.

“Middlemen often force farmers to sell their products at low prices, leading to unsustainable farming practices and farmer migration. Meanwhile, consumers pay higher prices for the same products. This festival aims to mitigate these issues by directly supporting farmers,” Mishra said.

Free stalls have been arranged for farmers, and local municipalities have been approached to provide free transportation for agricultural products. Additionally, outstanding farmers will be honored to encourage their contributions to the agricultural sector.

Objectives of the Festival

The festival aims to attract unemployed youth to professional farming, facilitate the marketing of agricultural products, promote hybrid seeds, and increase production. It also seeks to engage returnee migrants from abroad in agriculture, boosting commercialization and sustainability. The event is expected to contribute to the promotion of Tanahun’s tourism, religious, and historical sites.

Highlights of the Festival

The festival will feature exhibitions of agricultural products, local handicrafts, and goods produced by local industries. Exhibits will include grain, legumes, cash crops, fruits, vegetables, and other local produce. In addition, dairy products, livestock-related goods, fish dishes, and poultry products will also be showcased.

According to festival spokesperson Subodh Adhikari, 90% of the stalls have already been booked. Special discounts of 25% on stall bookings have been provided to businesses affiliated with the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Extensive Planning for Success

To ensure the festival’s success, 29 subcommittees have been formed, with responsibilities distributed among the members. Em Kumar Malla, Senior Vice President of the Chamber and coordinator of the purpose committee, highlighted the extensive preparations and collaboration among stakeholders.

The Ninth Tanahun Agriculture, Tourism, and Technology Festival is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the region’s agricultural and tourism sectors while addressing key challenges faced by local farmers.
