The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has continued its regular participation in the General Assembly of the Union of Asian Alpine Associations (UAAA), further strengthening Nepal’s engagement in regional mountaineering cooperation and policy dialogue.

This year’s General Assembly is being held in China from May 15 to 20, 2026, bringing together representatives from various Asian alpine and mountaineering bodies to discuss collaboration, safety standards, and development in high-altitude sports.

NMA Presents Progress Report and National Representation
The NMA was represented at the assembly by its 2nd Vice President, Bodha Raj Bhandari. During the meeting, Bhandari presented key highlights from the association’s progress report for the previous fiscal year, outlining the NMA’s ongoing initiatives and contributions to mountaineering development, safety awareness, and international cooperation.

He emphasized Nepal’s continued commitment to strengthening regional partnerships in mountaineering and adventure tourism through active participation in such international forums.

Proposal to Honor Nima Rinji Sherpa
On the occasion, Bhandari formally proposed that Nepali climber Nima Rinji Sherpa be conferred with the “Sherpa of the Year Award,” one of the most prestigious recognitions awarded by the Asian Mountaineering Federation.

The proposal highlights Nepal’s growing presence and achievement in the global mountaineering community, particularly through the contributions of its young and experienced climbers. The General Assembly is expected to continue discussions on cooperation among member associations and the promotion of safe and sustainable mountaineering practices across Asia.
