NMA and Amadablam Youth Club Forge Powerful MoU for Island Peak & Lobuche

The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Amadablam Youth Club from Pangboche and Dingboche in Solukhumbu to regulate and facilitate climbing activities on Imja Tse (Island Peak) and Lobuche. The MoU, signed by Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa, President of NMA, and Mr. Sonam Dorji Sherpa, President of the Amadablam Youth Club, aims to improve safety, management, and coordination for climbers and trekkers in the Everest region.

As per the agreement, the Amadablam Youth Club has been entrusted with the responsibility of fixing ropes on both peaks while also monitoring fake summits to ensure climbers follow the correct route. To facilitate this effort, the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) will provide financial support of Rs. 475,000 for purchasing essential ropes and climbing equipment. Half of this amount will be disbursed immediately, while the remaining 50% will be released upon the submission of the bill and required documents by the Amadablam Youth Club.

Additionally, the NMA has allocated Rs. 75,000 per peak for managing used ropes, ensuring proper maintenance and enhanced safety for future climbers. This initiative aims to uphold climbing standards, minimize risks, and provide a safer mountaineering experience for all. By implementing these measures, the agreement seeks to improve route security and maintain the integrity of the climbing environment on both peaks.

The Amadablam Youth Club will provide climbing guides to trekking companies, offering two pricing options: Rs. 20,000, which includes food and accommodation, or Rs. 25,000 without these provisions. While trekking companies are not required to hire these guides, they have the option to do so if needed, ensuring flexibility for mountaineers and tour operators. This initiative aims to enhance safety and convenience for climbers tackling challenging peaks in the Everest region.

In collaboration with the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), this initiative is expected to improve the overall climbing experience on Island Peak and Lobuche. By integrating local expertise, the program supports sustainable tourism while empowering the local community. The involvement of trained climbing guides will not only enhance the quality of mountaineering services but also contribute to the economic growth of the region, reinforcing the Everest area’s reputation as a premier destination for adventure tourism.
