One-Day Forest Fire Management Training Held in Thasang, Mustang

On Sunday, December 9, 2024 (Mangsir 23, 2081), a one-day forest fire management training was successfully conducted in Thasang Rural Municipality-3, Lete, Mustang. The event was organized by the National Nature Conservation Fund, the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, and the Jomsom Area Conservation Office, with support from the Gandaki Watershed Climate Resilience Project.

The program saw the participation of key local stakeholders including the members of the Conservation Area Management Committee and the Forest Management Sub-Committee, local representatives, forest guards, as well as officials from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force of Nepal.

The session was chaired by the Ward Chairperson of Thasang Rural Municipality-3, while the Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Ram Prasad Suvedi, Chief of the District Forest Office of Mustang. The training was structured into five informative sessions:

  • Session 1: Presentation on the introduction to forest fires and their types.
  • Session 2: Discussion on the measures for forest fire prevention and control.
  • Session 3: Informative session on fire control materials.
  • Session 4: Discussion and interaction on the roles of security forces and other disaster management aspects, including forest fire control.
  • Session 5: Field practice on forest fire prevention, including creating firebreaks, controlling fires using fire extinguishers, utilizing locally available materials for fire control, and methods for preventing household fires.

The training aimed to equip local communities and authorities with essential skills and knowledge to manage and prevent forest fires, promoting a more effective response to fire-related emergencies in the region.
