Through the membership, Qatar aims to increase its engagement with tourism stakeholders across Asia Pacific while exploring opportunities for business networking, destination promotion and sustainable tourism development.

Qatar Tourism Formalizes Membership at WTM London 2026

The membership agreement was signed by Noor Ahmad Hamid, CEO of PATA, and Omar Al Jaber, Director of Operations Affairs at Qatar Tourism. The ceremony was witnessed by Henry Oh, Chairman of PATA, and H.E. Saad bin Ali Al-Kharji, Chairman of Qatar Tourism. The signing took place at the Qatar Pavilion during WTM London on Tuesday, November 3, marking a new step in cooperation between the two organizations.

PATA welcomed Qatar Tourism’s membership, highlighting the country’s growing international tourism profile and its strengths in infrastructure, connectivity, cultural heritage and business events. PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid said the membership would create opportunities for stronger collaboration between Qatar and the Asia Pacific tourism community. He also emphasized the association’s role in connecting destinations and tourism organizations through knowledge exchange and industry partnerships.

Qatar Seeks Stronger Connections with Asia-Pacific Markets

Omar Al Jaber said joining PATA marked an important step in strengthening Qatar Tourism’s engagement with the Asia-Pacific region. He noted that the association’s extensive network would provide opportunities to develop new partnerships, exchange industry expertise and expand Qatar’s international outreach. The membership is also expected to support efforts to attract more visitors from important tourism markets across the region.

Qatar Tourism is responsible for regulating and developing the country’s tourism industry, implementing national tourism strategies and encouraging private-sector investment. It also works to strengthen Qatar’s international presence through overseas offices, digital platforms, travel-trade programmes and business events initiatives. These activities support the country’s ambition to expand its tourism market and establish stronger relationships with international travel partners.

Doha’s 2026 GCC Tourism Capital Recognition

The membership comes as Qatar continues to strengthen its position in the regional and international tourism industry. Doha has been named the 2026 GCC Tourism Capital, recognizing its growing role as a regional tourism destination. The designation highlights the city’s infrastructure, international connectivity, cultural attractions, sporting events and business tourism opportunities.

Qatar’s tourism offerings include cultural experiences, family entertainment, sports, leisure, shopping, wellness and heritage attractions. Its international air connectivity, supported by Qatar Airways’ global network, further strengthens its position as a gateway connecting major travel markets. These advantages contribute to Qatar’s efforts to attract a wider range of international visitors and diversify its tourism economy.

PATA Membership Opens New Industry Opportunities

Through its membership, Qatar Tourism will have opportunities to engage with PATA’s diverse network, including destination management organizations, airlines, hospitality companies, travel businesses, tourism authorities and educational institutions. The association also provides platforms for industry research, professional networking, knowledge exchange and participation in international tourism programmes and events. These opportunities can help Qatar strengthen its relationships with tourism stakeholders and explore new areas of cooperation.

Qatar Tourism’s addition also expands PATA’s engagement with tourism organizations beyond the Asia-Pacific region, reinforcing its role as a platform for international collaboration. The partnership creates further possibilities for destinations and industry representatives to share expertise and explore responsible tourism growth. For Qatar, the membership provides another channel to promote its destination internationally while building stronger connections with tourism markets across Asia-Pacific.
