Pokhara Gears Up for Visit Year 2025 with Ambitious Tourism Plans

Pokhara Metropolitan City was declared as Nepal’s Tourism Capital last year, gaining both positive and critical attention. Critics pointed out the lack of proper strategy, infrastructure, and long-term planning. However, tourism entrepreneurs believe the declaration will bring significant economic, social, and cultural benefits to the region.

The city is now preparing to celebrate Pokhara Visit Year 2025, with plans to boost tourism, promote local art, culture, and natural beauty, and enhance infrastructure. Mayor Dhanraj Acharya stated the year would be a milestone for the city’s tourism advancement, focusing on international collaboration and diverse tourism activities, including adventure, cultural, rural, and eco-tourism.

The metropolis aims to attract 1.5 million tourists with ambitious plans like building an international conference center, a glass bridge at Devi’s Falls, eco-tourism initiatives, and community-based tourism projects. Efforts to enhance transportation, hotels, and hospitality services, alongside infrastructure development, are underway.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided $31.79 million to support urban resilience and livelihood improvements. Tourism experts stress the importance of strategic planning, environmental conservation, and active community participation to ensure sustainable growth and establish Pokhara as a world-class destination.

Dr. Ram Chandra Lamichhane, a former Vice-Chair of the Pokhara Urban Planning Commission, emphasized the importance of translating the tourism year declaration into actionable strategies. “A declaration alone won’t bring tourists. It requires strategic planning, infrastructure development, and unwavering commitment,” he said.

Hari Bhujel, Senior Vice President of the Pokhara Tourism Council, noted that adventure, rural, and cultural tourism must be prioritized. Events targeting water, land, and air tourism will help promote Pokhara on a global scale.

Pokhara Metropolitan City is on a mission to solidify its position as Nepal’s premier tourist destination. With collaborative efforts, strategic planning, and robust infrastructure development, Pokhara Tourism Year 2025 aims to create unforgettable experiences for visitors while driving economic growth and cultural preservation in the region.
