In the lead-up to the third Pokhara International Cross Country Race, a photo exhibition was held yesterday at the International Mountain Museum in Pokhara. The event, co-organized by Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Embassy of China in Nepal, the Nepal Tourism Board, and the Himalayan Tourism Forum Pokhara, aims to promote the bond between Nepal and China through sports.
The exhibition showcases images of various sports and cultural events in both countries, to strengthen ties between Nepal and China. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Yang Zhonghua, Director of Yunnan Provincial Sports Bureau, emphasized the importance of the race in enhancing the long-standing relationship between the two nations. He also highlighted the need for institutional growth in the sports sector to promote competitive sports and drive systemic improvements.
Dharma Raj Panthi, a member of the International Mountain Museum’s operating committee, expressed hope that the event and photo exhibition would further solidify the friendship between Nepal and China. The museum’s Chief Executive Officer, Nirmala Neupane, shared that the exhibition features 60 photographs. On this occasion, the Yunnan Sports Bureau presented a donation of NPR 200,000 and 30 photo stands to the museum.
On Thursday, a chartered flight from Kunming brought 134 Chinese participants and supporters to Pokhara for the race. According to Himalaya Tourism Forum media coordinator E. Pratiraj Pahari, tomorrow’s event will see 1,200 runners competing in four race categories.
The 50-kilometer mountain race will start at Barahi Ghat in Lakeside, Pokhara, and traverse through landmarks including Rastra Bank Chowk, Dam Side, Chhorepatan, Fusre Khola, Ramdi, Mattikhan, Deurali, Fedikhola, Damgade School, Salme Danda, Ramkot, Kuwinde, Ulleri, Thaple, Tiger Hill, Kabre, Pumdibhumdi, Talpari, and The Beach Restaurant before concluding back at Barahi Ghat.
The team race has registered 21 teams, including 17 from Nepal and 4 from China, with a total of 63 runners. As part of the event, the Pokhara-Kunming Friendship Park was inaugurated yesterday at Basundhara Park in Pokhara, symbolizing the growing cultural and tourism links between the two cities.
