Promotion Program for Gurung Heritage Trail Successfully Completed

The Gurung Tourism Entrepreneurs Association has successfully concluded a promotional program for the Gurung Heritage Trail. This trail connects Pokhara to Sikles, Kapuche, Kholasothar, Karpu Danda, Yangjakot, and back to Pokhara, showcasing the region’s rich natural and cultural heritage.

The program, which began on December 21, was organized by the Gurung Tourism Entrepreneurs Association with support from the Nepal Tourism Board, Madi Rural Municipality, and the Ministry of Industry and Tourism of Gandaki Province. According to the program coordinator and founding president of the association, Bobarjung Gurung, a 45-member team comprising tourism entrepreneurs, guides, and media representatives participated in the promotional trek.

Starting from Sikles, the team traveled through Kapuche Glacier Lake, Kori, Kholasothar, Karpu Danda, and Yangjakot. Gurung emphasized the importance of preserving the trail as road network expansion poses a threat to traditional trekking routes. “The Gurung Heritage Trail can serve as a significant alternative for trekking enthusiasts,” he stated.

Gurung also highlighted the need for infrastructure development along the trail. “It is essential to establish hotels, communication facilities, and access to clean drinking water at key points along the route,” he noted, adding that improvements in infrastructure would enhance the trekking experience.

The trail offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage, featuring scenic rivers, pristine ponds, expansive pastures, and picturesque plateaus. Trekkers can also enjoy close-up views of prominent mountain ranges, including Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Lamjung, Himlung, Ganesh, Himalchuli, and Manaslu.

Historically, the trail was used as a path connecting grazing lands for cattle and sheep, and Gurung suggested that it could be further developed into a trekking route to preserve its traditional significance while promoting sustainable tourism.

The Gurung Heritage Trail promises to be a remarkable addition to Nepal’s trekking destinations, offering a mix of adventure, cultural exploration, and stunning Himalayan vistas.
