Purnima Summits Everest for 5th Time
This latest feat comes a year after Shrestha made history by becoming the first woman to summit Everest three times in a single season. She was accompanied by seven foreign climbers and 14 Nepali climbers during this ascent, all operating under the same guiding company.

Originally from Gorkha, Shrestha is not only celebrated for her mountaineering skills but also for her powerful storytelling through photojournalism. She has long been active in documenting the culture, lifestyle, and environmental issues of Nepal’s Himalayan regions through her photography and reports.

Her remarkable mountaineering resume includes successful ascents of eight of the world’s 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, namely: Mount Everest (5 times), Manaslu (twice), Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and the deadly K2. Her daring achievements earned her a place on CNN’s 2024 list of “Extreme Athletes Who Pushed Limits.”
Shrestha continues to inspire not only with her endurance on the mountains but also through her commitment to bringing Himalayan stories to the global stage combining her dual roles as a climber and journalist with remarkable grace and grit.
