The scenic hilltop of Rajakot, located in Dangisharan Rural Municipality–2, is rapidly emerging as a popular tourist destination in the Dang district. Known for its panoramic views of the Sishne, Putha, and Machhapuchhre mountains, Rajakot also offers breathtaking sights of the entire Dang Valley, including the Babai and Rapti rivers and parts of Banke district.
A Hidden Gem with Expanding Appeal
According to Prakash Dangi of Dangisharan–2, Goltakuri, efforts are now underway to develop Rajakot as a recognized tourism site. “It is naturally beautiful and visually captivating. It holds great potential to be developed into a major tourist hub,” Dangi shared.

Local residents believe that Rajakot’s unique landscape, pleasant climate, and easy accessibility make it an ideal spot for nature lovers and hikers seeking peaceful hilltop experiences away from crowded destinations.
Rich in Local History and Heritage
Local resident Chakra Milan Bishwakarma mentioned that Rajakot holds historical value as the place where the then King of Dangisharan used to stay while suffering from malaria. “There’s also an old Nepal Telecom tower on the site, which adds a distinctive landmark to the area,” Bishwakarma noted.
The route to it starts from Goltakuri, and visitors can reach the viewpoint after a five-kilometer hike. Historically, the nearby Tilakanya Pass served as a trade route used by people traveling between Rukum, Salyan, and Rolpa, making it an area of cultural and geographical importance.
Ideal for Hikers and Domestic Tourists
Recently, several domestic tourists organized a hiking event to Rajakot, trekking from Goltakuri in about two hours. The hike offered stunning views of mountain ranges, river valleys, and diverse landscapes, enhancing its appeal as a hiking and sightseeing destination.

According to local resident Deviram Kusari, Rajakot’s location and views make it “one of the most promising tourist sites in the district.” The rise in weekend hikers and visitors suggests growing recognition of it’s beauty among domestic travelers.
Plans for Tourism Development
Ramesh Bhandari, spokesperson of Dangisharan Rural Municipality, confirmed that plans are in progress to promote Rajakot as a tourism center. “We are working to develop necessary infrastructure and facilities to attract more visitors,” he stated, emphasizing the rural municipality’s commitment to sustainable tourism growth. With its captivating natural scenery, cultural significance, and proximity to key travel routes, Rajakot is on track to become one of Dang’s most appealing travel destinations in the coming years.
