Rajbiraj Airport Begins Night Flights, Boosting Tourism and Economy

Rajbiraj Airport in Saptari has officially started night flights, marking a significant development in the region’s aviation services. With the installation of necessary equipment for nighttime operations, Buddha Air launched its first night commercial flight on Monday.

This new service brings the total number of airports with night landing and takeoff capabilities to 10 across the country. Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, inaugurated the night flights and expressed confidence that this service would contribute to the growth of the local tourism sector and overall economy.

Previously, Buddha Air operated daily daytime flights between Kathmandu and Rajbiraj. With the support of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the airline conducted a successful night flight trial on Friday. Following the success of the trial, Buddha Air began its regular nighttime operations on Monday, offering flights between Kathmandu and Rajbiraj.

The airport has now been equipped with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), which allows flights to operate even in poor weather conditions. Under IFR, visibility requirements are lower, allowing flights to operate with a visibility of just 2,000 meters, compared to the 5,000 meters required under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

Buddha Air has been operating regular ATR 72 flights between Kathmandu and Rajbiraj since Magh 18, 2076 (January 2020), and this new development marks a key milestone in enhancing the airport’s facilities and services. The introduction of night flights is expected to enhance connectivity and foster greater economic activity in the region, especially in tourism.
