Reality Shows ‘Mero Voice Universe’ and ‘Mero Dance Universe’ Ignite Global Celebration of Nepali Culture

Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey has praised the reality shows Mero Voice Universe and Mero Dance Universe for their role in expanding Nepal’s cultural footprint across the globe. During an interaction at the ministry with contestants who made the top ten in both shows, Minister Pandey said these shows provide a powerful medium to promote Nepali identity through song and dance and to connect culture with tourism.

Uniting Diaspora Talent under National Culture

Both shows are produced by the non‑profit social organization Intra Foundation and are currently airing their second seasons on Nepal Television. Minister Pandey recounted meeting Mero Dance Universe Season 1 winner Khusi Karki, a talented Nepali from Thailand, at an event in Thailand. He used this as an example of how Intra Foundation is weaving cultural threads among Nepalis worldwide, calling it a “commendable” effort especially by Bhutanese Nepali communities in the United States. “We may face limitations as a nation,” he said, “but institutions of the diaspora upholding Nepali music, dance and culture abroad deserve our admiration.”

Contestants as Cultural Ambassadors

Minister Pandey also urged every contestant—whether winner or not—to serve as Nepali cultural ambassadors in their communities. Emphasizing that beyond the prizes and titles, their role in representing Nepal’s cultural heritage is equally important, he encouraged them to remain engaged and active in promoting Nepali music, dance, and values in their native or adopted homes.

Intra Foundation’s Global Mission Through Art

According to Chudamani Bhattarai, Executive Director of Intra Foundation, the shows aim to unite Nepali-origin people worldwide through singing and dancing, strengthening cultural identity across borders. So far, participants from 60 countries have taken part, and this week, contestants from diverse origins entered the top eight. “We have reached all continents except Antarctica,” he said. Notably, a seventh-generation Nepali from Myanmar made headway into the competition, stepping into Nepal for the first time to participate in the show.

Voices and Moves from Diverse Corners of the Nepali World

During the program, talent from various countries captivated attendees with their performances: Asmita Neupane representing Myanmar, Junu Prasai from Qatar, Dipraj Rai from Sikkim, and Prashant Pokharel from Nepal all performed songs for Minister Pandey and others in attendance. These performances highlighted the diversity yet shared cultural roots of Nepalis scattered across continents.

Broadcast Reach and Format Details

Mero Voice Universe is aired every Thursday and Friday evening, while Mero Dance Universe is broadcast Sunday and Monday evenings on Nepal Television. Conceived by Chairperson Dilli Adhikari of Intra Foundation, these shows engage global Nepali talent via auditions, mentorship, and competition, serving as dynamic platforms for cultural sharing and artistic excellence.

Grand Prizes and Finale Details

Major accolades await winners: both shows award NPR 10 million to first-place winners, NPR 3 million to runners-up, NPR 1 million to third-place finishers, and NPR 300,000 each to all top ten contestants. The grand finales for both shows are scheduled to take place on Bhadra 7 at Godawari, organizer Chudamani Bhattarai announced.

Connecting Culture with Tourism

Minister Pandey underscored the strategic importance of linking cultural outreach to tourism promotion. By showcasing Nepali music and dance to global audiences, these reality shows create pathways for cultural curiosity to transform into tourism inflows. “When overseas Nepalis celebrate their roots publicly, they invite interest in Nepal as a place of rich culture and heritage,” he said.

Strengthening Identity Through Global Engagement

Through global engagement, Mero Voice Universe and Mero Dance Universe help reinforce a collective Nepali identity. Contestants, whether in Kathmandu, Bangkok, Doha, or Gangtok, share common origins, language, and artistic traditions. This unity through performance fosters pride and reconnects second- and third-generation Nepalis with their ancestral culture.

Future Vision: Bridging Culture and Nationhood

Intra Foundation’s efforts, Minister Pandey noted, are helping fill geographic gaps by consolidating Nepal’s intangible cultural heritage into artistic forms. He pledged full support for making these cultural programs more structured and impactful in the future. The government’s endorsement reflects a broader commitment to position Nepali culture as a core asset in its tourism strategy.

Community Engagement and Soft Diplomacy

These shows also exemplify soft diplomacy as they carry Nepali arts into international living rooms. Participants, with their inspiring backstories and emotional performances, spark conversations about Nepal’s geography and traditions. Such visibility supports Nepal’s tourism economy, hospitality sector, and university exchange programs by spotlighting Nepal’s arts and cultural depth.

Cultural Legacy in Motion

Minister Pandey reiterated that these reality shows are more than entertainment, they are living conduits of Nepali culture. He encouraged winners, contestants, viewers and organizers alike to continue promoting Nepaliyat through song and dance. By engaging diaspora talent and celebrating shared heritage, Mero Voice Universe and Mero Dance Universe are creating an inclusive vision of culture, identity, and nationhood. As both shows move toward their grand finales in Godawari on Bhadra 7, they promise to crown artistic talent, and more importantly, to affirm Nepali culture on a global stage.
