Religious Tourism is the Backbone of Madesh’s Prosperity: CM Satish Kumar Singh

On the occasion of Shrawan Monday, Chief Minister of Madesh Province, Satish Kumar Singh, emphasized that religious tourism stands as a foundational pillar for the economic prosperity of Madesh following agriculture. During his visit to the sacred site of Tuteshwarnath Mahadev Temple located in Bardibas-5, Mahottari, CM Singh highlighted the immense potential of religious tourism in the province and reiterated the government’s commitment to its development.

From Koshi to Thori: Madesh Rich in Sacred Sites

“Madesh is blessed with countless religious and culturally significant destinations, stretching from Koshi in the east to Thori in the west,” stated Chief Minister Singh, adding, “We must focus on developing infrastructure and preserving heritage in these areas to unlock the full tourism potential of the province.”

He pointed out that religious sites like Tuteshwarnath Mahadev, Panchdhura Maithan, and Raimandal Dham hold not only spiritual importance but also offer great geographical and natural beauty, nestled as they are in the lush forests and foothills of the Chure mountain range. These elements, he said, make them attractive tourism destinations if developed and promoted in a planned and sustainable manner.

Government Commitment to Preservation and Promotion

Chief Minister Singh stressed that the Province Government is actively prioritizing the development and promotion of religious and cultural heritage sites, aiming to uplift the region economically while preserving its unique identity. “Our commitment is not in words alone,” he stated. “The government has already initiated various infrastructure projects in areas like Tuteshwarnath, Panchdhura Maithan, and Raimandal Dham, and the results will soon be visible.”

He also highlighted that the government intends to collaborate closely with local governments, ensuring that tourism initiatives align with the local needs and strengths of the region. Such collaboration is crucial, he said, in ensuring long-term and inclusive growth through tourism.

On-Site Assessment of Infrastructure Development

Following his pilgrimage at Tuteshwarnath and Panchdhura Maithan, Chief Minister Singh took time to inspect ongoing infrastructure development works in these sacred locations. These include the construction of visitor amenities, roads, rest areas, and site beautification programs aimed at improving the overall experience for pilgrims and tourists.

During the visit, local stakeholders including representatives from Bardibas Municipality, the Municipality’s Culture and Tourism Promotion Committee, and members of the Hotel and Tourism Entrepreneurs Federation of Nepal, presented various demands and suggestions. They urged the provincial government to accelerate tourism-focused investment, and sought technical and financial support for promotion campaigns, training programs for hospitality, and improved access roads to heritage sites.

Local Participation Key to Sustainable Growth

CM Singh assured stakeholders of full provincial support and emphasized the need for community participation in preserving and managing religious sites. He reiterated that locals must see tourism as an opportunity for job creation and cultural revival, not just as an economic venture.

He also acknowledged that many of Madesh’s religious sites remain unexplored and underdeveloped due to lack of awareness, poor connectivity, and insufficient promotion. “It is our responsibility to bring these places to light, not only for spiritual reasons but also to generate income and employment for the people,” he stated.

Natural Beauty and Spiritual Significance Combine

Chief Minister Singh further explained that the natural landscape of these religious areas adds an extra layer of attraction for visitors, combining scenic beauty with spiritual ambiance. The dense forest areas and Chure foothills surrounding temples like Tuteshwarnath Mahadev provide an ideal setting for both pilgrim visits and eco-tourism experiences.

He stated that developing tourism in such areas would also lead to environmental conservation, as locals will see value in preserving forests, rivers, and trails which attract tourists.

Call for Comprehensive Tourism Policy

The visit also reignited discussions on the need for a comprehensive tourism policy in Madesh Province, one that incorporates religious tourism, eco-tourism, and cultural heritage as key components. Stakeholders requested the government to expedite a provincial tourism master plan, outlining priorities, funding strategies, and promotional activities.

In response, CM Singh confirmed that such a policy is already in the pipeline and that it will soon be discussed in the provincial assembly. He assured that the voices of local governments, cultural experts, religious leaders, and tourism professionals would be considered during the drafting process.

Religious Tourism as a Catalyst for Economic Revival

Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh’s visit to Tuteshwarnath and Panchdhura Maithan underlines the growing recognition of religious tourism as a viable path to regional development and prosperity in Madesh. With rich cultural heritage, untapped spiritual destinations, and the government’s expressed commitment, Madesh is poised to transform its temples and traditions into powerful engines of economic growth and cultural pride.

As Nepal continues to promote itself on the global tourism stage, Madesh Province, with its spiritual richness and natural beauty, has the potential to become a major pilgrimage and cultural tourism destination, echoing the country’s broader identity as the land of sages, saints, and sacred stories.
