As Nepal prepares for the autumn mountaineering season, teams tasked with preparing climbing routes and installing fixed ropes on Ama Dablam and Himlung Himal are set to move toward the mountains. Altogether, 12 members have been mobilized for the rope-fixing work, with seven of them assigned to Ama Dablam and five to Himlung Himal. To assist mountaineers attempting the peaks during the busy autumn season, the teams will prepare the climbing routes and set up fixed ropes.
Rope-Fixing Teams Deployed Ahead of the Autumn Season
In light of the possibility of heavy rainfall next week, the Nepal Mountaineering Operators Association has decided to send the teams earlier than originally planned. Association Secretary Rishiram Bhandari stated that the early deployment was meant to let the teams finish essential preparations before potentially difficult weather conditions set in.
On Monday, the association formally bid farewell to the teams in Kathmandu. The Ama Dablam team is scheduled to depart Kathmandu on Tuesday morning, while the team responsible for Himlung Himal will leave on Wednesday. At the farewell programme, association President Dambar Parajuli handed over the flags of the Nepal Mountaineering Operators Association and the Department of Tourism to the respective teams. He also wished the members a safe journey and the successful completion of their responsibilities.
Base Camp and Route Preparations Underway
The rope-fixing work forms an important part of preparations for the autumn climbing season, when mountaineers from Nepal and abroad travel to the country’s Himalayan peaks. Properly prepared routes and fixed ropes help provide safer and more organized climbing access on the mountains’ technical sections.
According to the association, Snowy Horizon Treks and Expeditions has been given responsibility for establishing and managing the base camp and other necessary facilities on Himlung Himal this season. Likewise, Himalayan Guides Nepal Treks and Expeditions will oversee the base camp and related arrangements for the Ama Dablam expedition. The companies will be responsible for the necessary logistical preparations in their respective mountain areas.
The early deployment of the rope-fixing teams is expected to help ensure that the two peaks are ready for climbers as the autumn mountaineering season picks up pace. Ama Dablam and Himlung Himal are among the Himalayan peaks that draw international mountaineers to Nepal during the autumn season.
