The Sixth Janakpur Literature Festival, organized by the Nava Mithila Foundation, is set to commence on February 7 (Magh 24) with the theme “A Celebration of Land, Culture, and Tradition.” The three-day festival, which has been held annually for the past five years, will feature discussions on literature, culture, society, and contemporary issues.
During a press conference in Janakpurdham, Amit Kumar Sah, chairman of the Nawa Mithila Foundation, stated that final preparations for the festival are in full swing. He emphasized that the event aims to facilitate in-depth discussions, debates, and critiques on literature and societal issues, fostering knowledge exchange and intellectual discourse.
The festival will host sessions covering significant topics such as literature, education, tourism, policy-making, economy, governance, politics, sports, heritage, and traditions. Sah also highlighted that musical performances and literary discussions will add to the festival’s vibrancy, making it an engaging and creative platform.

According to Aditya Nepal, vice-chairman of the foundation, this year’s festival will feature 14 panel discussions and three solo lecture programs as major attractions. Some of the key topics for discussion include “Challenges and Opportunities in Janakpurdham,” “Reading Culture in the Digital Age,” “Cricket: Problems, Solutions, and Possibilities,” “Madhesh Glory: Commercialization of Festivals,” “Education, Learning, and Scientific Thinking,”
“Youth Interest in Policy-Making,” “Nepal’s Foreign Policy and Border Regions,” “Madhesh from the Central Perspective,” “Movements and Literature,” “The Journey of Nepali Entrepreneurs,” “The Search for Happiness,” “Society, Literature, and Cinema,” “The Madhesh Vote,” “Kulman Ghising’s Solo Lecture,” and “Constitution, Federalism, and the Practice of the Rule of Law.” A total of 17 sessions will be held over the three-day event.
The festival will conclude with a special ceremony honoring the late classical musician Guru Dev Kamat. His family will be presented with the Amit Jha Literature and Music Award, recognizing his contributions to classical music. Organizers anticipate that the festival will provide a significant platform for intellectual and cultural discussions, contributing to the enrichment of literature and social awareness in the region.
