A group of 50 young cyclists completed a three-day cycling journey across 12 local levels of Jhapa today, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging cycle tourism in the region.
Organized Initiative for Tourism and Health
The tour, organized by the Jhapa Cycle Club with support from the Tourism Office, Kankadbhitta, began on Falgun 30 (Nepali calendar) and concluded yesterday. According to Niroj Kattel, Information Officer at the Tourism Office in Kankadbhitta, under the initiative “Ghumau Jhapa–2082,” participants from both Nepal and India covered a total distance of 185 kilometers across the 12 local levels.

Cultural and Religious Exploration
During the tour, cyclists visited various tourist attractions and religious sites at each local level. Participants also learned about the traditions, cultures, and customs of different ethnic communities in Jhapa, gaining a first-hand understanding of the district’s diverse heritage.

Promoting Health and Environmental Awareness
Cycling as a recreational and health-promoting activity has grown steadily in Jhapa in recent years. Local cyclists have formed clubs to organize tours and encourage community participation. Participants emphasized the benefits of using cycling as the best physical exercise and highlighted its role in reducing environmental pollution. They also educated residents on adopting healthier lifestyles through regular cycling.

Strengthening Cycle Tourism
Officials and organizers believe that initiatives like this tour not only contribute to physical well-being but also boost tourism in the district. By showcasing Jhapa’s natural, cultural, and religious attractions, the tour aims to position cycling as both a recreational and sustainable tourism activity.
The successful completion of the three-day journey is expected to inspire more youth to participate in cycling events, promoting fitness, environmental awareness, and local tourism development in Jhapa.
