Tourist Influx Rises in Ghorepani and Poon Hill Post-Dashain Festival

Following the Dashain festival, the arrival of both domestic and international tourists has increased at the popular tourist destinations of Ghorepani and Poon Hill, located in Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Myagdi, along the Annapurna Circuit Trek.

Hotel operators in Ghorepani report a significant influx of tourists who are drawn to the stunning views of the Himalayan range and the mesmerizing sunrise. According to the vice-president of the Ghorepani Local Improvement Committee, Juli Thakuri Pun, tourist numbers surged after the Dashain festival once road repairs were completed on the Pokharebagar-Ghorepani route, which had been blocked by a landslide at Ghoptekharka. The improved road now allows for the operation of jeeps and motorcycles, making it easier for tourists to reach Ghorepani and Poon Hill.

To celebrate the Tihar and Chhath festivals, local hotels and lodges have also offered a 10% discount on food, snacks, and accommodations to domestic tourists. Around 100 domestic tourists arrive daily via vehicles from Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi, while a significant number of tourists are trekking to Ghorepani through routes like Ulleri and Ghandruk in Kaski, Mohare Danda in Myagdi, and Bhuk Deurali in Parbat.

Birendra Pun, a local hotel operator, mentioned that the area is bustling with tourists eager to witness the majestic views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhre peaks. Poon Hill offers a panoramic view of more than 20 Himalayan peaks, including Manaslu, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri, which are all over 8,000 meters tall.

Many tourists either return from Ghandruk and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) or visit Ghorepani from Pokhara before trekking to Ghandruk and ABC. Pun noted that the renewed excitement among hotel operators stems from the growing presence of tourists, which highlights the increasing popularity of the renowned Annapurna Circuit Trek. The trail from Ghorepani to Poon Hill has been well-maintained, allowing for convenient access to scenic sunrise and mountain views.

Situated at an altitude of 2,800 meters, Ghorepani offers 26 well-furnished hotels with a combined capacity to accommodate 1,200 guests daily. Room packages range from NPR 1,500 to NPR 5,000 per person, depending on the level of comfort provided.

Ghorepani and Poon Hill, located in Myagdi’s Annapurna-6, are ideal destinations for tourists seeking to enjoy the spectacular views of the Himalayas, hilly terrain, sunrise, and rhododendron forests. Poon Hill, at an elevation of 3,210 meters, is one of the most well-known viewpoints on the Annapurna Circuit, offering breathtaking vistas.

The Annapurna Conservation Area, encompassing Myagdi, Mustang, Kaski, Lamjung, and Manang, charges NPR 1,000 per person for tourists from SAARC countries and NPR 3,000 per person for international visitors. Many tourists visiting Ghorepani also explore various attractions in Myagdi, including Dhaulagiri and Annapurna expeditions, natural hot springs, Dhaulagiri Icefall, and scenic spots such as Rupse Waterfall, Andhagalchi, and Beni Bazaar.

With the growing number of tourists, Ghorepani and Poon Hill continue to thrive as key destinations within Nepal’s tourism sector, offering visitors a memorable experience amid nature’s beauty.
