Tribhuvan International Airport to Extend Operating Hours

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has announced plans to extend the operating hours of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Starting February 1, 2025 (Magh), the airport will operate from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily, according to Dipendra Shrestha, Director of the Air Traffic Capacity Enhancement Project.

“We are preparing to extend the airport’s operating hours by one additional hour each in the morning and evening from February 1,” Shrestha told.

Since November 9 (Kartik 23), the airport has been partially closed for 10 hours daily to facilitate ongoing expansion projects. The project involves constructing a parallel taxiway on the southwestern side, expanding the international apron on the northern side, and developing a hangar apron on the eastern side of the airport.

Over 100 personnel are currently engaged in the project, and approximately 22% of the work has been completed, Shrestha reported. Construction activities, including the parallel taxiway on the southwest, hangar development on the east, and apron expansion on the north-south axis, are underway.

This extension of operating hours is expected to enhance air traffic capacity while ensuring the timely progression of airport expansion efforts.
