Starting January 1, 2025 (Poush 17), the government has imposed a ban on commercial helicopter flights within the Sagarmatha National Park region. The park authorities formally announced this decision on Wednesday, issuing notifications to all helicopter companies operating in the area.
The decision was reached during a joint meeting involving the Sagarmatha National Park, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, the Sagarmatha National Park Buffer Zone Management Committee, and other local stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental organizations.
As per the new regulations, helicopter flights will now be permitted only for essential services such as tourist and local rescues or the transportation of goods. Commercial flights solely intended for tourism or other purposes will no longer be allowed.
This move is expected to address environmental and operational concerns in the region, ensuring the preservation of the park’s pristine environment while maintaining essential services for locals and visitors.
