Two female rhinoceroses have been relocated from the western sector of Chitwan National Park to the eastern sector. The transfer took place on Saturday and Sunday.
Both rhinoceroses were released in the Khagendramalli area of the eastern sector. According to the park’s information officer, Abhinash Thapa Magar, one rhinoceros, aged 15, was transferred on Saturday, while the second one, aged 16, was transferred on Sunday.
These rhinoceroses were previously in the Amaltari area of the park’s western sector. The rhinoceros darted on Saturday was relocated on Sunday morning, while the one darted on Sunday was moved to the eastern sector in the evening. This year, the park plans to relocate four rhinoceroses, continuing the internal relocation work. Last year, six rhinoceroses were relocated.
Based on a recommendation from a study team, which suggested relocating 10 rhinoceroses from the western sector, the park is moving forward with the additional transfers. The technical team began the relocation work from Amaltari, located in the western region of the park in Nawalpur.
