A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Lo Manthang in Mustang on Tuesday night at around 9:33 PM, followed by minor aftershocks on Wednesday morning, prompting an update for tourists and visitors travelling in Nepal’s Upper Mustang region. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre and local reports from Mustang Lowa, the earthquake was felt in and around Lo Manthang. Minor damage has been reported at a few local monasteries following the tremor. Despite the earthquake, authorities have confirmed that the region’s tourism infrastructure and access routes remain operational.
Roads, Trails and Hotels Operating Normally
The Assistant Chief District Officer of Mustang has confirmed that roads, trekking trails, communication services, and tourist hotels and lodges remain operational following the earthquake. There have been no reports indicating major disruption to tourist movement or essential services in the Upper Mustang area. Travel and tourism activities are therefore continuing as normal.
