Westerly Low-Pressure System Influences Weather Patterns Across Nepal

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported the influence of a westerly low-pressure system in Nepal’s western region. Currently, the weather remains partly cloudy in the hilly areas of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country enjoys fair conditions. However, most parts of the Tarai region are experiencing widespread fog.

Meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar stated that the foggy conditions in the Tarai region are expected to persist throughout the coming week before gradually dissipating.

The temperature in Kathmandu Valley has started to rise gradually. The minimum temperature recorded on Thursday morning was 6.1 degrees Celsius, remaining the same today. The maximum temperature for the Valley is forecasted to range between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius.

This afternoon, the weather will be partly cloudy in the hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces, while other provinces will remain predominantly fair. Light snowfall is expected at one or two locations in the high hills and mountainous areas of Karnali province. Tonight, the hilly regions of Koshi and Karnali provinces will remain partly cloudy, with fair weather prevailing in the rest of the country.

In the next 24 hours, light snowfall is likely in one or two places in the high hills and mountainous areas of Karnali province. The Department has issued an advisory urging caution due to the dense fog expected in many parts of the Tarai region on Saturday morning, which could disrupt daily activities, agriculture, health, transportation, and aviation. Authorities have recommended that residents and travelers take necessary precautions to mitigate potential impacts.
