A traditional food festival has been organized in Chakhewa, Bhojpur to promote and develop the Mundum Trail. The festival is aimed at attracting tourists visiting the region. The festival showcases local dishes such as millet, buckwheat, gundruk, roasted maize with soybeans, and chicken wachipa (bitter dish), along with a variety of other locally made products. Dried fish, paha (fermented fish), millet momo, and millet porridge are also featured.
According to Ramadevi Rai, Vice-Chairperson of Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality, the festival aims to introduce tourists to traditional food and promote local products. The main focus is to familiarize visitors on the Mundum Trail with the unique local cuisine.
The event is organized by the rural municipality with financial support from a tourism-based development project. Chairperson Saroj Basnet stated that the festival will help in marketing local products and contribute to the livelihoods of residents. The event also supports the success of the “Mundum Tourism Year 2025.”
The local community is excited about the festival in Chakhewa. Hotel operators have expressed enthusiasm about serving local dishes to tourists. The two-day festival was organized to coincide with the New Year and attract more visitors.
