Due to insufficient promotion, the historic and religious site “Golme Raja, Golme Rani,” which is situated in Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality, has remained mainly unknown. Pandav Rai, a local, claims that although the location has great religious and historical significance and is connected to an old legend, it has not received the attention it merits.
According to legend, the Kali Yuga began when the royal couple, Golme Raja and Golme Rani, and their entourage mysteriously vanished from the location during their wedding procession. The place was named Golme Raja, Golme Rani Cliff because of this incident.
The location still has a row of stone structures that depict the wedding party, complete with pictures of the bride and groom, traditional musical instruments, and even horses, to support the mythological narrative.

Another local, Rajendra Rai, confirmed that these stones’ shapes and forms closely match the legend, giving the oral traditions that have been passed down through the generations legitimacy. Natural structures that resemble religious gates, weapons, swords, and garlands are visible to visitors.
Despite the area’s uniqueness, it has remained obscure, according to Ram Prasad Rai 6 Ward Chairperson Ekaraj Acharya. But now, the local government is putting more of an emphasis on its advancement. The municipality is looking into the site’s religious and historical significance, Acharya continued.
Additionally, the location is the source of the holy Ganga River, where three sizable springs of water flow continuously throughout the year without ever drying up or getting muddy even during the monsoon season. The springs’ unusual south-to-north flow is a phenomenon that astonishes many visitors.
The region has been further cut off from mainstream tourism because of its remote location. According to Chairperson Acharya, plans are in motion to integrate the development of all tourist destinations within the ward through higher government coordination and to build trekking routes to Golme.
Because of their strong belief in the site’s spiritual power, believers come there in the hopes of having their wishes fulfilled. Locals hope that national and international attention will soon be paid to this hidden gem.
