Compensation Distributed to Locals Affected by Wildlife in Shey-Phoksundo National Park

In the fiscal year 2080/81, the Shey-Phoksundo National Park Office in Suligad, Dolpa, has provided compensation to locals whose livestock were harmed by wildlife from the park. Under the livestock insurance scheme, a total of NPR 25.6 million has been distributed to the affected residents.

Senior Conservation Officer Bishwababu Shrestha reported that the compensation was allocated after evaluating the damage caused by wildlife to the livestock of residents in Dho of Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality, Phoksundo of Shey-Phoksundo Rural Municipality, and Rasigaun of Tripurasundari Municipality. The funds aim to support those living in the park’s vicinity and suffering losses due to wildlife.

The compensation was distributed mid-fiscal year through various buffer zone user committees, and the remaining payments were completed on Ashad 24. Shrestha emphasized that the annual revenue from medicinal herbs collected in Dolpa, amounting to approximately NPR 30 million, is directed to the central government. The funds returned to the district for insurance and development purposes were utilized to provide relief to the affected locals.
