A new 444-metre suspension bridge over the Aandhikhola River has made travel much easier between Galyang Municipality-7 and Galyang Municipality-11 in Syangja, while creating fresh possibilities for tourism and local economic growth. The bridge links Senapuk in Ward 7 with Budathoki Danda in Ward 11 and has dramatically shortened the journey to the Siddhartha Highway. Residents who previously needed about an hour to reach the highway can now make the journey in roughly 10 minutes. The improved connection is expected to make the area more accessible not only for local communities but also for visitors looking to explore rural landscapes and lesser-known destinations around Galyang.
Bridge Adds a New Attraction for Visitors
The suspension bridge stands along the roadside and stretches high above the Aandhikhola, allowing visitors to enjoy views of the surrounding landscape. Its length and location could make it an appealing spot for sightseeing and photography, particularly for travelers exploring Syangja by road. Galyang Municipality Mayor Guru Prasad Bhattarai said the project would contribute to tourism promotion alongside improving everyday mobility.
He expressed confidence that greater visitor movement could bring economic benefits to communities on both sides of the river. The improved access could also encourage the growth of local businesses, agriculture, and livestock-based activities by making it easier for people to connect rural settlements with nearby markets and urban areas.
Faster Travel Brings Relief to Residents
For people living around Senapuk and other settlements across the river, the bridge has changed the way they travel for their everyday needs. Local resident Ram Prasad Aryal said students previously had to walk around five kilometres to attend schools in Galyang. With the new crossing, the walking distance has been reduced to approximately two kilometres.
Residents also had to pay between Rs 300 and Rs 500 for auto-rickshaw trips to reach markets, hospitals and other services. The new bridge gives them quicker access to the Siddhartha Highway, where vehicles are readily available for onward travel. Families with school-going children have also benefited from the safer crossing. Parents previously had to accompany young children across the nearby stream, particularly when water levels made the crossing difficult.
Improved Access Could Strengthen Rural Tourism
The bridge is expected to do more than shorten travel times. Easier access to the area could encourage more people to visit rural communities and discover the landscapes and local way of life around Galyang. With its elevated structure and views of the surrounding hills, the bridge itself could become an additional point of interest for visitors traveling through the area. Increased tourist movement could create opportunities for local shops, accommodation providers, transport services and other community-based businesses. Local authorities expect the improved connectivity to support broader economic and social development while helping rural communities benefit from tourism and reducing the need for residents to move elsewhere in search of opportunities.
