Nepal Rastra Bank Announces Foreign Exchange Rates for Today

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the country’s central monetary authority, has released the official foreign currency exchange rates applicable for today. According to the NRB’s daily bulletin, the buying rate for one US dollar has been fixed at NPR 139.91, while the selling rate stands at NPR 140.51. These rates serve as the benchmark for banks and financial institutions across Nepal when dealing in foreign currencies. The central bank has stated that these rates can be revised at any time depending on market fluctuations and other economic factors.

Major Global Currencies: Dollar, Euro, Pound

Alongside the US dollar, the European euro and British pound sterling have also seen their exchange rates updated. The buying rate for one euro is set at NPR 163.25, while the selling rate is NPR 163.95. Similarly, one British pound sterling is valued at NPR 189.14 for buying and NPR 189.96 for selling. These rates reflect recent global currency market trends and are essential indicators for importers, exporters, and travelers.

The Swiss franc, another major global currency, is set at NPR 174.88 for buying and NPR 175.63 for selling. The Australian dollar is being traded at NPR 91.35 for buying and NPR 91.74 for selling, while the Canadian dollar stands at NPR 101.64 for buying and NPR 102.08 for selling. These currencies are often used in international trade and tourism transactions involving Nepal.

These rates are particularly important for remittances, as many Nepalis work in these countries and send money back home.

South and Southeast Asian Currencies: Baht, Dirham, Ringgit, Won

The Thai baht is set at NPR 4.33 for buying and NPR 4.34 for selling. The UAE dirham is valued at NPR 38.09 for buying and NPR 38.25 for selling. These currencies are among the strongest in the world and have significant implications for workers and investors.

Indian Rupee Rate Maintained

Given Nepal’s close economic ties with India, the Indian rupee rate remains a critical factor in daily transactions. For today, NRB has set the exchange rate for 100 Indian rupees at NPR 160.00 for buying and NPR 160.15 for selling. This rate is pegged in coordination with the fixed exchange arrangement between the two countries.

Flexibility and Updates on Exchange Rates

The central bank has clarified that these exchange rates may be updated at any time based on fluctuations in the international currency market. While NRB provides the official reference rates, commercial banks in Nepal may apply slightly different rates based on their operational policies. The most up-to-date exchange rates are available on the NRB’s official website, ensuring transparency and accessibility for the public.

Significance for Trade, Travel, and Remittances

Foreign exchange rates play a vital role in Nepal’s economy, influencing import and export prices, tourism revenues, and remittance flows. A stronger foreign currency against the Nepali rupee benefits remittance receivers but can increase the cost of imports. Conversely, a stronger Nepali rupee makes imports cheaper but can affect remittance value. Today’s rates, therefore, hold significance for businesses, workers abroad, and travelers alike.
