Nepal Revolutionizes Revenue Collection via International Cards

In a significant step towards strengthening Nepal’s digital economy, the Ministry of Finance has announced that revenue payment can now be made through international card networks. The initiative was formally launched by Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal and Chief Secretary Ekanarayan Aryal.

Seamless Integration with RMIS

The integration has been carried out under the Revenue Management Information System (RMIS), which now supports payments via international card networks. According to the ministry, this system makes revenue services paperless, faceless, and accessible 24/7.

Benefits for Taxpayers and Tourists

The ministry stated that the new service will greatly benefit Nepali taxpayers residing abroad as well as international tourists visiting Nepal. With faster and more transparent payment processes, the system is expected to enhance convenience and improve service delivery.

Digital Economy Promotion

Officials emphasized that the move will not only make revenue collection faster and more transparent but also help promote Nepal’s broader digital economy agenda. By offering international-level service standards, the government aims to create a service-friendly environment that aligns with global practices.

Supported Card Networks

According to the Office of the Auditor General, the system currently accepts payments through Mastercard, Visa, Alipay, and other major international card networks. These payments can be used for services mandated by the Department of Immigration.

Boost for Tourism Sector

One of the key beneficiaries of this initiative will be international tourists entering Nepal. Tourists arriving through Tribhuvan International Airport and other entry points can now make immigration-related payments using their international cards, eliminating the need for cash transactions.

Initial Implementation and Future Expansion

At present, the system has been introduced for immigration-related revenue payments managed by the Department of Immigration and its subordinate offices. The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the service will gradually be expanded to other government agencies, broadening its scope and impact across multiple public service sectors.

This step marks a milestone in Nepal’s efforts to modernize its financial and administrative infrastructure, ensuring convenience for both domestic taxpayers and international visitors while fostering a robust digital economy.
