Authorities in Sankhuwasabha have successfully rescued a Spanish mountaineer stranded at Makalu Base Camp, Ward–2, Makalu Rural Municipality. Jesus Martinez Novas was evacuated by helicopter this morning from an altitude of 5,700 meters, six days after being trapped due to severe weather and heavy snowfall, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Prasad Mainali of the District Police Office.
Safe Transfer to Dingboche, Khumbu Region
Following his rescue, Novas was transported to Dingboche, Ward–4, Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu, ensuring he receives proper care and rest after the high-altitude ordeal.

Authorities also reported that the Makalu Base Camp area currently hosts approximately 70 foreign tourists and 60 Nepali trekkers, many of whom have been temporarily stranded due to continued adverse weather conditions.

Challenges of High-Altitude Rescue Operations
The evacuation highlights the risks faced by climbers in the Himalayan region, particularly during unpredictable weather. Police and rescue teams coordinated air operations to ensure the safe extraction of Novas, demonstrating the importance of rapid response and high-altitude rescue preparedness.
The stranded tourists are being monitored closely, and authorities remain on alert for further evacuation requirements as weather conditions improve.
