Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his deep sorrow over the demise of senior tourism entrepreneur and proprietor of Dwarika’s Hotel and Resort, Ambika Shrestha. Shrestha passed away at the age of 92 on the 3rd of Shrawan while undergoing treatment.
In a condolence message, President Deuba conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. He acknowledged Shrestha’s significant contributions to Nepal’s tourism and hotel industry, noting that her demise represents an irreplaceable loss to the social sector.
Ambika Shrestha was the founding chairperson of Himal Media Pvt. Ltd. and served as the Honorary Consul General of Spain. Over her six-decade-long career in the tourism and hotel industry, Shrestha made remarkable contributions to the growth of the sector. She was equally active in social work, playing a vital role in promoting women’s entrepreneurship and empowerment alongside her efforts in the tourism sector.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel has also expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Ambika Shrestha, the founder of Dwarika’s Hotel.
Poudel visited the bereaved family members at Dwarika’s Hotel this morning to offer his condolences. During his visit, he praised Shrestha’s immense contributions to Nepal’s hospitality industry and remarked that her legacy will be fondly remembered in the history of Nepal’s tourism sector.
“Ambika Shrestha’s visionary efforts in establishing Dwarika’s Hotel as a sanctuary for the architectural grandeur of the Newari civilization have left an indelible mark on our nation’s tourism and cultural heritage,” Poudel stated.
A family source confirmed that the final rites for Shrestha will be performed at the electric crematorium at Pashupati Aryaghat today. Shrestha passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.
Shrestha’s pioneering work in the hospitality sector not only elevated Dwarika’s Hotel to a prestigious status but also showcased the richness of Newari architecture and culture to the world. Her passing is a significant loss to the tourism and hospitality community in Nepal.
