Local Residents Get 50% Discount on Chandragiri Cable Car Tickets

ICRA Nepal

Residents of Chandragiri Municipality can now enjoy a 50% discount when riding the Chandragiri Cable Car. The initiative, implemented from today, marks a significant step in promoting local engagement and making the popular tourist attraction more accessible to nearby communities.

The decision was made by Chandragiri Hills Limited, the company operating the cable car, during its 16th annual general meeting held on Poush 23. The discount was scheduled to begin on Magh 1. However, since Magh 1 coincided with a public holiday, the implementation started today.

Discount Details and Ticket Pricing

Currently, a standard cable car ticket costs NPR 825. Previously, residents of wards 1 to 5 near the cable car base station were eligible for a 25% discount. The new policy significantly increases the benefit, allowing residents of Chandragiri Municipality, Thaha Municipality in Makwanpur, and Indrasarover Rural Municipality to pay only half the regular fare.

Krishna Khadgi, spokesperson for Chandragiri Municipality and chair of Ward No. 3, explained that the effort to extend the discount to all local residents began a year ago. “The municipal executive decided to promote inclusivity by allowing all residents to benefit, which initiated this process,” Khadgi said.

Eligibility and Terms

To avail the discount, beneficiaries must present official documents proving they are residents of Chandragiri, Thaha, or Indrasarowar. Ticket buyers must be present in person at the time of purchase. The discount is not applicable on public holidays.

This initiative is expected to encourage more residents to experience the Chandragiri Cable Car, further integrating the attraction into the community and promoting domestic tourism. It also reflects the operator’s commitment to fostering local ownership and participation in one of Nepal’s most visited tourist sites.

Promoting Local Tourism

Chandragiri Hills Limited has long been a major driver of tourism in the region. By offering substantial discounts to locals, the company and local authorities aim to strengthen the connection between the cable car and the surrounding communities. Residents are now more empowered to enjoy the facility, while the initiative helps in building long-term support for tourism development in the area.

Officials believe that the policy will enhance visitor experiences and make the cable car a more inclusive destination for families and community members from nearby municipalities. The move also aligns with broader efforts to make Nepal’s tourism industry more community-centered and sustainable.
