The National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed the Tourism Bill, 2081, paving the way for reforms aimed at diversifying and promoting Nepal’s travel industry. During today’s meeting of the upper house, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha tabled a proposal seeking the passage of the bill. The proposal was endorsed unanimously by the Assembly.

Presenting the bill, Minister Sinha said that the legislation has been introduced to strengthen tourism promotion, encourage diversification of travel products, and make the sector more systematic and competitive. He emphasized that travel remains a key pillar of the national economy and that the new law would help unlock its full potential.
Focus on tourism development
According to the minister, the Tourism Bill, 2081, is designed to address emerging challenges in the travel sector while creating opportunities for sustainable growth. The bill seeks to support new tourism activities, improve service standards, and enhance Nepal’s appeal as a diverse tourist destination.
The passage of the bill is expected to provide a stronger legal framework for travel-related businesses and initiatives, aligning them with the country’s long-term travel development goals.

In the same meeting, the National Assembly also passed a condolence motion on the demise of former National Assembly member Shukra Raj Samyok. Samyok, who was elected to the National Assembly in 2054 BS from the Nepali Congress, passed away on Magh 19 at the age of 90. Lawmakers paid tribute to his contributions to national politics and public service. The next meeting of the National Assembly has been scheduled for Magh 28 at 1:15 pm, according to the Assembly Secretariat.
