On the occasion of the International Wellness Day 2026 and the beginning of the Nepali New Year 2083, a special health and environmental promotion program was successfully held in Pokhara, combining trekking, trail cleaning, yoga, and collective meditation activities.
The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism (Gandaki Province), coordinated by the Pokhara Tourism Council, and co-organized by TAAN Gandaki Province. With the slogan “Wellness as the Foundation of Life: Trekking, Nature, and Positive Thinking,” the campaign aimed to integrate tourism, health, and environmental conservation under a unified vision.

Trekking and Trail Cleaning Campaign
The program began with a trekking rally from Damside, which followed the scenic route of View Fewa Round Fewa leading up to Andu. During the trek, participants actively engaged in trail cleaning activities, collecting waste along the route, and spreading awareness on environmental conservation. The initiative delivered a strong message on responsible tourism and sustainable trekking practices.

Yoga and Group Meditation in Nature
In the serene natural setting of Raniban and the lakeside area of Fewa Lake, around 100 participants gathered for a one-hour session of yoga and group meditation. Conducted in harmony with nature, the session helped participants experience mental relaxation, inner peace, and positive energy. Many participants described it as a deeply refreshing and transformative experience.

Formal Program Highlights
Following the trekking and meditation activities, a brief formal program was held at Andu. Honourable Minister for Tourism of Gandaki Province, Mitra Lal Basyal, attended as the chief guest and addressed the program. He stated that wellness is the foundation of happiness and emphasized that such initiatives significantly contribute to establishing Pokhara as a leading wellness tourism destination. He further highlighted the importance of integrating wellness practices into tourism development strategies to strengthen sustainable tourism in the region.

Return Journey and Community Lunch
After the program, participants returned from Andu to Gaurighat via a scenic boat ride across Fewa Lake, enjoying the natural beauty of Pokhara. A community lunch was also organized at Gaurighat, fostering unity and fellowship among participants from various sectors.

TAAN Gandaki Leadership Statement
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Acharya, President of TAAN Gandaki, expressed his satisfaction over the successful execution of the program. He stated that such initiatives play a vital role in promoting sustainable trekking, environmental responsibility, and wellness tourism in Nepal. He also emphasized the need for continued collaboration among government bodies, tourism associations, and local stakeholders to position Pokhara as a global hub for wellness and nature-based tourism.

TAAN Gandaki Vice President Tirtha Raj Subedi highlighted the importance of integrating trekking activities with environmental awareness programs, stating that Nepal’s trekking routes must be preserved as global assets through responsible tourism practices.
A Step Toward Wellness Tourism Promotion
The event concluded with appreciation to officials from the tourism ministry, representatives of various tourism organizations, TAAN members, journalists, and all participants. Organizers expressed confidence that such integrated programs will help strengthen Pokhara’s identity as a center for wellness tourism, environmental awareness, and holistic well-being in Nepal.
