Rs 4.5 Million Grant Boosts Community Homestay Development in Baglung

The Sustainable Tourism Promotion Project has provided a grant of Rs 4.5 million to support the establishment and improvement of community homestay facilities in Nisikhola Rural Municipality and Dhorpatan Municipality, aiming to strengthen rural tourism and local livelihoods.

The financial assistance has been distributed among 14 households to upgrade and expand homestay operations in key tourism areas of the district. Officials say the initiative is expected to enhance the quality of services while promoting sustainable tourism practices in the region.

Focus on Community-Based Tourism

Under the project, support has been extended to expand the Pakhathar Community Homestay in Dhorpatan Municipality-9 and to operate the Budhathok Nakha Community Homestay in Budhathokgaun, Nisikhola. Four households in Budhathokgaun have already begun operating homestay services under the scheme. The project aims to develop community-based tourism models that allow visitors to experience authentic local culture, lifestyle, and traditions while generating income for rural households.

Promoting Youth Entrepreneurship and Women Empowerment

Project Chief Amar Thapa said the grant has been specifically targeted to encourage youth entrepreneurship and empower women economically. “The support is aimed at helping local people run tourism-friendly homestay facilities in a more organized and professional manner,” he said. “It will also contribute to making women self-reliant and creating employment opportunities at the community level.” Officials believe that structured homestay operations will not only improve service quality but also increase the attractiveness of the region for domestic and international tourists.

Plan to Expand Homestay Network

As part of its long-term plan, the project intends to bring more households into the homestay network. Around 20 households in Dhorpatan Municipality and 10 households in Nisikhola Rural Municipality are expected to be gradually integrated into the system. This expansion is aimed at creating a well-managed and sustainable tourism ecosystem that benefits a wider section of the local population.

Enhancing Tourism Potential in Baglung

Baglung district, known for its natural beauty and cultural diversity, holds significant potential for rural tourism development. With improved homestay infrastructure, officials expect an increase in tourist arrivals, particularly those seeking eco-friendly and culturally immersive travel experiences. The initiative is also expected to complement existing attractions in the region, including trekking routes, natural landscapes, and traditional settlements.

Economic Impact and Local Benefits

Local stakeholders say the grant will help improve living standards by generating additional income for participating households. Homestays often create multiple economic opportunities, including local food production, handicrafts, and guiding services. By strengthening the tourism value chain, the project is expected to contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
