Mithila Hospitality to Build Five-Star Hotel in Janakpur with Rs 2 Billion Investment

Mithila Hospitality, an emerging hospitality company, is set to establish a five-star hotel in Janakpur with a large-scale investment, marking one of the most ambitious private sector tourism projects in the region.

The company, led by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) former vice-president Rameshwar Shah, is expanding its footprint in Nepal’s hospitality sector after successfully operating the Royal Tulip Resort in Chitwan. Shah confirmed that the new project under Mithila Hospitality aims to introduce Janakpur’s first international-standard five-star hotel.

Launch of Project Following Successful Resort Operation

The announcement comes just eight months after the launch of the Royal Tulip Resort in Chitwan. Shah said the success of the resort encouraged further investment in Nepal’s tourism infrastructure, particularly in historically and religiously significant cities like Janakpur.

According to him, the project has already begun with a formal ground-breaking ceremony, signaling the start of construction activities. The hotel is expected to redefine luxury accommodation standards in the region.

Strategic Importance of Janakpur as Tourism Hub

Janakpur, widely known as a major religious and cultural destination, attracts both domestic and international visitors throughout the year. Despite steady growth in hospitality services, the city has long lacked international-standard luxury accommodation. Investors believe the introduction of a five-star hotel will significantly enhance tourism potential and help position Janakpur as a premium destination within Nepal’s religious tourism circuit.

High-Level Groundbreaking Ceremony

The foundation stone of the hotel was laid on Monday under the chief guestship of Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav. The ceremony was attended by several prominent political and business figures, including Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Kanish Patel, Member of Parliament Manish Jha, and Upendra Mahato, among others. Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Manoj Shah and other local stakeholders were also present at the event, highlighting strong institutional support for the project.

Rs 2 Billion Investment and Large-Scale Infrastructure

The project will be developed with an estimated investment of Rs 2 billion, making it one of the largest private hospitality investments in the region. The hotel is planned to be constructed over approximately 2 lakh square feet of land area, with a built-up area of around 1.2 lakh square feet. The development is expected to be completed within three years, with operations targeted to begin in Baisakh 2086 (2029 AD). Once completed, the hotel will feature 124 rooms, including 8 luxury suites, and will accommodate up to 372 guests.

Modern Facilities and Luxury Amenities

The upcoming five-star property will offer a wide range of premium facilities designed to meet international hospitality standards. These include fine-dining restaurants, live kitchens, café lounges, rooftop pool bars, and a live music bar.

Plans also include a casino, banquet halls for conferences and social events, and a business center. For wellness and recreation, the hotel will feature a multi-purpose swimming pool, spa, health club, tennis court, amphitheater, and event hall. Additional modern features such as EV charging stations and dedicated children’s play areas are also part of the design, making the hotel a comprehensive luxury destination.

Investment Partnership and Employment Opportunities

The project is being developed by Mithila Hospitality with additional investment participation from former banker Gyanendra Prasad Dhungana, businessman Kaji Lama, Sudip Kumar Chaudhary, and Udaya Kanta Jha, among others. Once operational, the hotel is expected to directly employ around 150 people, while generating indirect employment opportunities for hundreds more in tourism, transport, and service sectors.
