IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, has officially introduced “IndiGo Lite,” a new entry-level fare option designed specifically for economy class passengers who prefer traveling with only cabin baggage while paying only for the services they actually need.

The newly launched fare product is aimed at offering travelers greater flexibility and affordability by allowing customers to customize their travel experience and avoid paying for additional services that may not be required during their journey. Industry analysts say the move reflects growing competition among airlines to cater to price-sensitive travelers seeking low-cost and personalized travel options.
New Fare Available From July for Domestic and International Flights
According to the airline, IndiGo Lite will be available for booking starting July 1, 2026, exclusively through the airline’s official booking channels, including the company website, mobile application, and contact center. The fare category will be applicable for travel commencing from July 15, 2026 onward.
The new fare option will be available across both domestic and international non-stop flights, covering one-way, round-trip, and multi-city bookings. The airline confirmed that the fare will be accessible for both adult and child passengers, expanding flexible booking options across a wide range of travelers.

Passengers Pay Only for Services They Need
Under the new Lite Fare, passengers will receive an automatically assigned seat free of additional charge along with a cabin baggage allowance of up to 7 kilograms. However, optional services such as checked baggage, preferred seat selection, onboard meals, and Fast Forward priority airport services will not be included in the base fare and must be purchased separately.
The airline stated that these add-on services can be booked through IndiGo’s website or directly at the airport up to one hour before flight departure, giving travelers greater flexibility to choose services according to their individual travel needs and budget preferences.
Loyalty Benefits Remain Available Under New Fare Structure
Despite the lower base fare, customers booking through IndiGo Lite will continue to enjoy benefits under the airline’s loyalty program, allowing passengers to both earn and redeem BluChip loyalty points in the same way as other fare categories. The company says maintaining loyalty benefits ensures regular passengers continue receiving rewards while benefiting from more affordable ticket options.
Airline Expands Customer Choice Amid Changing Travel Preferences
Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at IndiGo, said the airline introduced the new fare specifically for customers who prefer traveling light and want greater control over their travel expenses by paying only for services they require. He said the launch reflects the airline’s continued effort to respond to changing consumer preferences while expanding product options for travelers across different budget categories and travel styles.

IndiGo Expands Its Growing Fare Portfolio
With the launch of IndiGo Lite, the airline has further expanded its “6E Ways to Fly” product portfolio, which now includes Saver, Flexi Plus, IndiGo UpFront, IndiGoStretch, Stretch+, and IndiGo Lite. Industry observers say the introduction of multiple fare options demonstrates how airlines are increasingly moving toward unbundled pricing models, allowing passengers to personalize travel experiences while making air travel more accessible to a wider range of customers. The move is also expected to strengthen IndiGo’s competitiveness in both domestic and international markets as demand for affordable travel options continues growing across Asia’s aviation sector.
