Emirates Expands Kenya Operations with Third Daily Dubai–Nairobi Flight

Emirates has significantly expanded its operations in Kenya by officially launching a third daily flight service between Dubai and Nairobi, increasing total frequency on the route to 21 weekly flights and further strengthening travel connectivity between East Africa and the airline’s growing global network.

The newly introduced service represents another major milestone in Emirates’ long-term expansion strategy in Africa while supporting growing passenger demand, cargo movement, tourism growth, and international business travel between Kenya and key international markets across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia.

New Daily Service Improves International Connectivity for Travelers

The airline’s newly added flight service, EK717, officially commenced operations this week and arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 5:00 AM, marking the beginning of Emirates’ expanded operational schedule on one of Africa’s most strategically important international routes.

According to the updated schedule, the flight departs Dubai at 1:20 AM and lands in Nairobi at 5:25 AM, providing passengers with improved onward connectivity from major long-haul markets, particularly travelers arriving from North America and several European destinations. The return service, EK718, departs Nairobi at 7:10 AM and arrives back in Dubai at 1:15 PM, allowing passengers seamless connections onward to destinations across Europe including the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, and Portugal.

Boost for Kenya’s Tourism Industry and Safari Travel Market

Tourism stakeholders say the new early morning arrival schedule offers significant benefits for international visitors traveling to Kenya, especially tourists planning immediate onward journeys to the country’s world-famous safari destinations, coastal resorts, and national parks.

Earlier arrivals allow international travelers more flexibility to continue domestic travel on the same day to iconic destinations such as wildlife reserves and beach tourism hubs, making Kenya more attractive for high-value international tourists seeking seamless travel experiences. Industry experts say improved aviation connectivity remains one of the most important drivers for Africa’s tourism growth, particularly for destinations heavily dependent on international leisure travel.

Business Travelers Gain Faster Access to Europe and Global Markets

The new service is also expected to provide stronger benefits for business travelers by enabling same-day connections between Kenya and major commercial hubs across Europe and other international markets. The expanded schedule improves travel efficiency for corporate travelers, investors, exporters, and professionals requiring faster connections between Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, further strengthening Kenya’s position as one of East Africa’s leading economic centers.

Emirates Reaffirms Long-Term Commitment to Kenya Market

The inaugural flight was welcomed at Nairobi airport by representatives from Emirates, government officials from both Kenya and the United Arab Emirates, as well as stakeholders from the aviation and tourism sectors. Christophe Leloup, Country Manager for Emirates in Kenya, said the newly launched service reflects the airline’s long-standing relationship with Kenya and demonstrates Emirates’ continued commitment to improving connectivity for passengers, businesses, and tourism development in the region. Emirates has operated flights to Nairobi since 1995 and over the past three decades has transported more than six million passengers to and from Kenya, connecting travelers to over 138 destinations worldwide through Dubai.

Expanded Cargo Capacity Supports Kenyan Exports

Beyond passenger services, the additional daily flight significantly increases cargo capacity between Kenya and international markets. The airline said the new schedule adds 280 tonnes of additional cargo capacity per week, providing major support for Kenya’s export industries.

Key export products expected to benefit include Kenya’s globally recognized fresh flower exports, agricultural produce, and perishable goods, which rely heavily on efficient international air freight services to access markets in Europe and the Middle East. Combined with Emirates SkyCargo’s existing three weekly freighter operations, Emirates now moves more than 1,100 tonnes of cargo to and from Kenya every week, further strengthening trade links and supply chain efficiency.

Partnership with Kenya Airways Strengthens Regional African Connectivity

The expanded schedule also complements Emirates’ interline partnership with Kenya Airways, which was launched in 2023 to improve regional connectivity for passengers traveling within Africa. The partnership enables travelers to access a wider network of African destinations through Kenya Airways while benefiting from Emirates’ extensive global route network through Dubai.

Aviation experts say the expanded flight frequency will play an important role in supporting Kenya’s broader tourism growth ambitions while improving international trade access and strengthening connectivity between Africa, Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
