Purnima Shrestha Honored by Public Force Television for Everest Record

Public Force Television celebrated mountaineer Purnima Shrestha’s historic achievement of summiting Mount Everest three times in a single season. The ceremony took place on Thursday at the television office in New Road, Pokhara, where Shrestha was awarded NPR 100,000 and a traditional Nepali shawl, known as a “dosalla.”

The award was presented by Man Chhetri, Managing Director of Public Force Television. Shrestha achieved her record by reaching Everest’s summit on May 12, May 19, and May 25 this year. She first conquered Everest in 2018 and hails from Arughat Rural Municipality-10 in Gorkha.

Public Force Television Chairman Sabin Bhatta had previously announced this honor, recognizing Shrestha’s remarkable spring season record. Shrestha, who also works as a photojournalist, shared her thoughts on the award, noting the significance of receiving such recognition from her field. “Receiving this honor with cash rewards is something I had never experienced as a journalist,” she said.

Reflecting on her journey from a rural village in Gorkha to Everest’s peak, Shrestha encouraged others to view their work positively. Chhetri highlighted that the award symbolizes Shrestha’s exceptional courage and achievements, stating, “This honor is for a mountaineer whose bravery and success serve as an inspiration.”

Shrestha, who began her mountaineering career seven years ago, has climbed Manaslu and eight other peaks above 8,000 meters. Public Force Television commended her as a role model for aspiring mountaineers and wished her continued success.
