Ramaroshan Premier League to Promote Tourism in Achham

Ramaroshan, a prominent tourist destination in Sudurpashchim Province, is preparing to host the second edition of the Ramaroshan Premier League cricket tournament at Kinimini Patan, with organisers hoping to promote the region’s natural beauty and attract more visitors. The open cricket competition is scheduled to begin on October 30, coinciding with the festive period of Tihar and Chhath. Organised by the Ramaroshan Adventure and Eco Sports Club, the tournament aims to connect sports with tourism by bringing cricket teams, spectators and visitors to one of Achham’s most scenic landscapes. Organisers believe the event will help introduce Ramaroshan to a wider national and international audience while creating opportunities for local tourism businesses.

Cricket Tournament to Attract Teams From Across Nepal

According to club chairman Laxman Bohara, the tournament will welcome cricket clubs from different districts of Sudurpashchim Province and other parts of Nepal. The competition is being promoted as one of the largest cricket tournaments in Achham in terms of prize money, with organisers expecting participation from a wide range of teams. The winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs 200,000, along with medals and certificates, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 100,000, medals and certificates. The prize structure is intended to encourage participation and make the competition an important sporting event for the district.

Kinimini Patan, where the tournament will take place, is considered the largest grassland in the Ramaroshan area. Its open landscape and peaceful surroundings offer a distinctive setting for a sporting event, combining outdoor recreation with the region’s natural attractions. Bohara said the competition would help showcase Ramaroshan’s scenic environment and introduce more people to the area through sports. By attracting participants and spectators, the organisers hope to increase the destination’s visibility and encourage visitors to explore its lakes, grasslands and surrounding landscapes.

Cultural Performances to Complement the Event

Alongside the cricket competition, organisers have planned cultural performances for the opening ceremony. Traditional Panche Baja music, Deuda, Hudkeuli, and Bhuwo performances will highlight the cultural heritage of Sudurpashchim Province. The inclusion of local traditions is intended to make the event more than a sporting competition. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience regional music, dance, and cultural practices while enjoying Ramaroshan’s natural surroundings.

The festival period is also expected to encourage people who have returned to their home districts for Tihar and Chhath to visit the destination. Organisers and local stakeholders believe that combining sports and cultural activities could make the area more attractive to families, domestic travellers and other visitors seeking a different holiday experience. Such events can also create opportunities for local businesses, including accommodation providers, food vendors, transport operators and small tourism enterprises. Increased visitor movement could generate local economic activity, although the overall impact will depend on attendance, visitor spending and the availability of tourism services.

Ramroshan’s Natural Attractions Offer Tourism Potential

Known for its distinctive natural landscape, Ramaroshan is often described by the phrase “Bara Banda, Athara Khanda,” referring to its 12 major lakes and 18 extensive grasslands. The area is valued for its mountain scenery, open meadows, tranquil lakes and religious significance. The region has increasingly attracted domestic visitors, including people travelling with family and institutional groups. Tourism stakeholders say visitors come from places such as Pokhara, Chitwan, Kathmandu and different districts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces to explore its natural environment.

Ramaroshan also holds cultural and religious importance. Local traditions and legends associate the area with various deities and recount that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati meditated there in ancient times. These beliefs contribute to the region’s identity as both a natural and spiritual destination.

Despite its tourism potential, inadequate infrastructure remains a major challenge. Visitors have reported difficulties travelling along the Jayagad–Ramaroshan road section, which is an important access route to the area. Purna Bahadur B.K., executive officer of the Ramaroshan Tourism Development Committee, has highlighted the need for improved road access and supporting infrastructure. Better transport links, visitor facilities, and tourism services would make the destination more accessible and help it accommodate a growing number of travellers.

Organisers Seek Support for Long-Term Tourism Development

The Ramaroshan Adventure and Eco Sports Club has been collecting financial support for the tournament from Ramaroshan Rural Municipality, the Ramaroshan Tourism Development Committee, local institutions, and other supporters. Their contributions are expected to help the organisers manage the event and its associated activities. Local stakeholders believe the tournament could become an annual platform for promoting Ramaroshan beyond the region. By attracting cricket enthusiasts and introducing visitors to the area’s cultural and natural attractions, the event could help strengthen the destination’s profile within Nepal’s tourism market.

For Ramaroshan to benefit in the long term, however, event promotion will need to be supported by better infrastructure, reliable transportation, accommodation, and visitor services. Improving these facilities would help convert short-term visits into broader tourism opportunities for local communities. The second edition of the Ramaroshan Premier League therefore represents an effort to use sports and cultural activities to highlight Achham’s tourism potential. Organisers hope the competition will draw visitors to Kinimini Patan, support local economic activity and encourage greater recognition of Ramaroshan as a destination for nature, culture and recreation.
