A paragliding festival is set to take place in the picturesque Guthichaur Valley of Guthichaur Rural Municipality in Jumla. The festival, scheduled from September 10 to 15 (Bhadra 25-30), aims to promote tourism in the region. Dan Bahadur Budha, the Chairperson of Guthichaur Rural Municipality, announced that the festival will include various events to attract both locals and tourists.
According to Chairperson Budha, a successful trial of paragliding has already been conducted in the area. The festival is expected to boost the visibility of Guthichaur as a tourist destination and increase local tourism activities. In addition to paragliding, the festival will feature an open men’s volleyball competition and an open women’s Deuda dance competition, adding to the cultural and recreational offerings of the event.
In other news, Jumla will host a free eye camp, with renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit leading the initiative. The camp is a joint effort by the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences Eye Department and the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, as informed by the Academy’s Director, Dr. Pujan Rokaya.
The eye camp will take place at various locations: Dilli Chaur Health Post in Patarasi on September 1 (Bhadra 16), Guthi Gaun Basic Health Center in Guthichaur on September 2 (Bhadra 17), Tamti Health Post in Tatopani Rural Municipality on September 4 (Bhadra 19), and Narakot Health Post in Sinja on September 5 (Bhadra 20).
Patients diagnosed with cataracts will have the opportunity to undergo free surgery at the Academy, performed by Dr. Sanduk Ruit. The Eye Department’s Chief, Dr. Bishwo Timilsina, also mentioned that the opening of the Eye Department at the Academy will coincide with the free cataract surgeries.
