Bhakani Dham in Bhimdatta Municipality Attracts Increasing Number of Tourists

Bhakani Dham, located in Bhimdatta Municipality-8 at the foothills of Chure, has seen a significant increase in the number of both domestic and international tourists. Previously a relatively quiet site, the Dham has become a bustling destination for pilgrims and tourists alike, thanks to the heightened religious activities initiated by Jagatguru Mohansharan Devacharya.

A major attraction under development at Bhakani Dham is a 75-foot-tall statue of Mother Nepal, designed to represent all 75 of Nepal’s former districts. Padam Bohara, a resident, remarked, “With the increase in religious activities, the number of visitors has surged. People from as far as Jhapa in the east now visit the Dham.”

The site holds historical and religious significance. According to local legend, during the Dwapar Yuga, the Pandavas visited this area during their exile. When they drew water from a well, the water burst forth with great force, giving the place its name, Bhakani. “This is the land of Siddha Baijanath, which already holds special significance, and the legend of the Pandavas adds to its importance,” noted Bohara.

The Dham also features nine distinct kunds (sacred ponds), each representing one of the nine districts of Sudurpaschim Province. According to local Mahesh Joshi, the number of visitors to Bhakani Dham has been steadily increasing, reflecting the site’s growing popularity.

The construction of the Mother Nepal statue began using approximately 22 tons of copper and brass collected during the circumambulation of Nepal, led by Jagatguru Mohansharan Devacharya between Baisakh 2072 and Magh 2074. An additional three tons of metal were donated by local residents, contributing to this monumental project.

Bhakani Dham’s rise as a religious and cultural destination marks it as an emerging point of interest in Nepal, drawing visitors from across the country and beyond.
