A grand fair was held at Jalbinayak Temple, Chobhar, in the northern part of Kathmandu on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Devotees from the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas gathered in large numbers to offer prayers and worship Lord Ganesh, who is believed to remove obstacles and bring success.
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, is celebrated as Lord Ganesh’s birthday, especially among followers of the Hindu religion. On this day, devotees traditionally bathe in sacred ponds or lakes, offer fruits, and observe a fast while circumambulating (parikrama) the surrounding area.
According to Anish Shrestha, the temple priest, Ganesh holds a prominent place in Vedic rituals. Devotees believe that offering prayers to Ganesh at the start of any religious or auspicious event brings good fortune, family harmony, and peace. “Worshipping Ganesh first ensures the fulfillment of desires and well-being,” said Shrestha.
Among the four prominent Vinayaks in the Kathmandu Valley, Jalbinayak is considered a sacred pilgrimage site for Sanatan Dharm followers. Jalbinayak, being the son of Lord Mahadev and Parvati, is revered, and it is believed that visiting and worshipping him accumulates religious merit (punya).
The temple also conducts a Rath Yatra (chariot procession) of Lord Ganesh, which attracts a significant number of devotees each year, adding to the vibrant festivities of Ganesh Chaturthi.
