The “Second National Kakrebihar Half Marathon” aims to highlight the fertile land of Karnali on a global stage through sports.
Details about the event were revealed today during a “Journalists’ Meet” hosted by the Mid-Western Fitness Center Surkhet at the renowned Kakrebihar Temple in Karnali.
Scheduled for June 21st to coincide with “World Olympic Day,” the marathon is supported by the Karnali Province Sports Development Council, organized by the Mid-Western Fitness Center Surkhet, and sponsored by Max Tiger. Organizers confirmed that preparations are complete.
Event coordinator Pramod Hamal outlined the competition, which includes a 21-kilometer half marathon, a 10-kilometer race for men and women, a 5-kilometer race for school students, and a 3-kilometer race for journalists.
“Two thousand athletes will compete,” said Hamal. “The event welcomes national and international runners.” Cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to the top four athletes, with NPR 100,000, 50,000, 30,000, and 25,000 for the first to fourth places, respectively.
Organizers also announced that winners of the 10-kilometer race will receive NPR 10,000, 7,000, and 5,000 for the top three positions. Winners of the 5-kilometer race will get NPR 5,000, 3,000, and 2,000, while those in the 3-kilometer race will be awarded NPR 3,000, 2,000, and 1,000 respectively.
The race will commence from Birendranagar Chowk, proceed through Mangalgadhi, Airport, Pipira, Dhuliabit, and Subbakuna, and return to finish at Birendranagar Chowk. The event’s estimated budget is NPR 1.5 million.
